Panthers quarterback Cam Newton turns 30 on Saturday. (Yes Stitched Cameron Artis-Payne Jersey , that means you’re old.) But as he embarks on his fourth decade, Newton vows not to change a thing about a game that has caused him to suffer plenty of injuries during his time in the NFL.“I’m too old to change,” Newton said Friday at his charity kickball tournament regarding his playing style, via Joe Person of the .Although Newton has missed only five games in eight seasons, he has had multiple offseason marred by surgery Youth Fozzy Whittaker Jersey , both shoulder and ankle. A surprising answer after Ravens fans were in full-blown meltdown due to the losses of free agency"The free agency doors opened and the 2019 league year began with multiple losses. The Ravens lost their star middle linebacker C.J. Mosley in a bidding war with the New York Jets. Pass rusher Za’Darius Smith joined the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North. Terrell Suggs shocked the NFL by leaving his long-time franchise and opted to end his career in Arizona with the Cardinals. All of this left Ravens fans in panic mode as the only move made was signing TE Nick Boyle to a three-year contract. The blogs were set on fire and Facebook groups were left in turmoil. Twitter raged and we even meme’d it.Then Hayden Hurst Jersey White , the next day, Eric DeCosta signed veteran RB Mark Ingram and followed up with the bombshell news of adding FS Earl Thomas. After the free agency glow wore off, SB Nation decided to poll Ravens fans on whether or not the franchise got better or worse in free agency.Ravens fans, sign up for FanPulse HERE!Did the Ravens get better in free agency?I’ll be honest, I voted in this poll and I responded yes. The team added quality players and cleared a bunch of cap space for 2020 and beyond. While great players left and signed mega-deals elsewhere, they added a compensatory pick or two for DeCosta to work with. The team still looks rather strong and I’m confident the Ravens will be defending their AFC North crown. The team isn’t perfect, but I think it’s fair to say the Ravens got better. They added a superstar free safety https://www.theravenslockerroom.com/authentic-hayden-hurst-jersey , the most complimentary tailback for Lamar Jackson, traded away Joe Flacco for a fourth-round pick and still have room to work with in the 2019 NFL Draft. The defense is still the best in the NFL until proven otherwise and the draft will (hopefully) bring about offensive talent for Jackson. At the annual owners meetings last week, Harbaugh expressed his thoughts on when the draft should be."With the NFL draft less than a month away, arugably the most exciting, anticipated time of the offseason is upon us. Between mock drafts, pro days, and prospect interviews Womens Lamar Jackson Jersey , there’s a lot to look forward to over the next several weeks. However, if it was up to our very own John Harbaugh, we wouldn’t have to wait so long to see which players are selected on draft day. Out of all the coaches who spoke to the media at last week’s NFL owners meetings in Arizona, Harbaugh was the only one who touched on the actual date of the draft and brought up some interesting points. “I think the draft should be earlier,” said Harbaugh. “We don’t need to be so involved where we need three months to watch the players ourselves. Let’s draft these guys, let’s get them to us”. Harbaugh definitely isn’t alone in this sentiment, as many have been voicing for the draft to be moved earlier in the offseason for quite some time. It’s hard to see where Harbaugh is coming from and he certainly makes some valid points. Moving the draft to say Lamar Jackson Jersey White , early April, or even late March, seems like a logical idea. This would benefit all parties involved - the players, the fans, and each NFL organization. Given how long the NFL offseason is already, having the draft over three months out from the end of the regular season only makes it drag on longer. Obviously, for the few teams that advance into the divisional https://www.theravenslockerroom.com/authentic-lamar-jackson-jersey , conference, and super bowl rounds of the postseason, the time gap between the end of the season and the draft is not quite as long, but these teams still have more than enough time to go through their preparation. Acquiring rookies earlier in the offseason would give organizations more time to work with them and get them adjusted to training schedules, routines, and further their development. It works both ways, too Womens Mark Andrews Jersey , as the incoming players would be given extra time to acclimate themselves to the demands of the NFL and get started with their new teams. Harbaugh also touched on this, as well. “And let’s be honest 鈥?nobody’s taking their last semester of school. You want to get in the real world? Let’s understand how that works,” said Harbaugh. “Let’s get them working on football so they can contribute their first couple of years”. It’s definitely an interesting topic to discuss, and Harbaugh’s words may serve to spark a potential ongoing debate about moving the draft up in the near-future. Whether or not it actually gains traction and amounts to anything remains to be seen, however. What do you think? Is Harbaugh correct - should the NFL move the draft up sooner in the offseason? Be sure to vote on the poll and leave your thoughts down below!

Today, we’ll take a look back at a..."Welcome to Forgotten Falcons, a 2019 offseason series where we remember some quality players who have been largely forgotten by the fanbase over the years. Today, we’ll take a look back at a current radio personality and former receiver in Brian Finneran.Time in Atlanta: 2000-2005, 2008-2010Stats: 236 receptions, 3,072 yards, 19 touchdowns, 13.0 yards per reception, 31 tackles, 2 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles, 5 punt returns, 9 yards, 5 kick returns, 47 yardsChances are that you haven’t actually forgotten about Brian Finneran, given that he’s a fixture on local radio in Atlanta at 680 The Fan. But chances are pretty good you’ve largely forgotten about his career, which was a story of quality play, devastating injuries Grady Jarrett Jersey 2019 , and a surprising comeback. Let’s remedy that today.Finneran’s career path is a familiar one to those who followed football in the late 1990s and early 2000s, when NFL Europe was a thing and the NFL had something resembling an actual minor league. Legends like Kurt Warner came out of that league, and so did Finneran, who was an All-Europe receiver for the Barcelona Dragons in 1999. That wound up earning him a short-lived look from the Philadelphia Eagles, and more importantly, it led to him latching on with the Falcons in 2000.Finn would go on to play his entire career in Atlanta, and he was one of Michael Vick’s favorites in the early going. He put up a 23/491/3 slashline in 2001, a year that saw him average over 23 yards per reception, and followed that up with a career-best 2002 where he posted 56 receptions, 838 yards, and 6 touchdowns. His versatility was noteworthy from early on, as he factored in as a core special teamer and occasional returner from early on, but primarily he was a useful possession receiver who frequently surprised teams with his speed early on. His height made him a problem at times in the red zone, though he’ll never be quite as legendary in real life as he was briefly in Madden, because EA mistakenly listed him as 6’7” and he became the jump ball champion of the game. Finneran would never get close to those numbers again, but he remained a damn useful player for years on a team lacking top-flight receiving options until a July 2006 knee injury robbed him of the next three years of his career. It’s difficult to understate just how huge of an impact that had on Finneran’s career, given that he was exactly the kind of player who due to his height, hands and special teams value might have played a decade straight without blinking minus that.Despite the injuries, the Falcons held on to him and he wound up returning in 2008 Black Brian Poole Jersey , serving as a useful reserve for the Matt Ryan-led Falcons through the 2010 season. He posted 51 receptions, 446 yards, and four touchdowns over the final three seasons of his career, becoming one of the few Falcons (alongside the likes of Jonathan Babineaux) who survived the series of regime chances in Atlanta and continued to contribute.Finneran was never a foundational piece for Atlanta, but he was a fan favorite for several years because he was a talented receiver and useful special teamer for some of the best Falcons teams in recent memory. Again, chances are good you haven’t forgotten him because of his stint on local radio, but his career deserves a hat tip, especially those post-injury years where he clawed his way back to the Falcons after a three year absence. ATLANTA (AP) — Larry Fitzgerald, Drew Brees and Travis Kelce are among NFL stars rewarding military veterans with trips to the Super Bowl.Through USAA, they will be joined by Christian McCaffrey, Kirk Cousins, Case Keenum, Falcons coach Dan Quinn and former Browns great Joe Thomas in honoring the veterans for their service.Fitzgerald is bringing Army Lt. Jameson Lopez to Atlanta. Lopez was responsible for coordinating more than 300 combat missions with the Iraqi and Kurdish security forces.“Teaming up with USAA and The Pat Tillman Foundation to honor military veterans this year has been a very rewarding experience for me, first with My Cause My Cleats, and now with a Super Bowl ticket giveaway,” Fitzgerald said. “I had the opportunity to meet Jameson Lopez earlier this year and I’m happy to be able to help send him on a trip of a lifetime to the Super Bowl.”Brees, teaming with the USO, is rewarding a Saints fans, hardly a surprise. Retired Army Sgt. Patrick Gray won several medals for his work in Afghanistan.“As a lifelong Saints fan who has served our country for 20 years Brian Poole Jersey 2019 , this is simply a small way to say thank you,” Brees said.Kelce’s recipient of a Super Bowl trip is former Army Sgt. Patrick Benson, a Bronze Star winner who founded the nonprofit War Horses for Veterans after he left the service.“Sgt. Patrick Benson first served his country in the Army and now he continues his service by helping fellow veterans as they return home,” Kelce said. “In honor of his service, I am pleased to award, with the help of USAA and the VFW, a trip to the Super Bowl to Sgt. Benson.”Quinn, a recipient of the NFL’s Salute to Service Award, worked with TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) to honor Zachary Boland, a marine private who passed away in 2016.“Zachary Boland made the ultimate sacrifice, passing away during training, but his commitment to our country lives on courtesy of his father Bob, who served in the Army, and his brother Nathaniel, a current Marine,” said Quinn. “It’s a special privilege to team up with USAA and TAPS to award Bob and Nathaniel a trip to the Super Bowl.”

Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsThe biggest mystery in the aftermath of the 2019 NFL Draft is why the Cardinals were so steadfastly coy in keeping everyone, including Josh Rosen and his agent, in complete suspense at the start of the show.I chose to call it a “show” because that’s what it was---a show. What we do not know is what kind of incentives that Roger Goodell and the NFL front office gave the Cardinals to do everything in their power to maximize the draft night suspense. What we do know is that the start of the draft last year commenced the same way---with the Cleveland Browns surprising the NFL universe by going with Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield. We also know (if you recall) that the Browns took the entire 10 minutes to spring their surprise---just as the Cardinals did. Ugh.I don’t know about you, but watching the Cardinals’ draft room and everyone just sitting there doing nothing except Steve Keim looking down at his cellphone was mystifying and torturous. They were waiting for a last second epic phone call to generate a blockbuster trade, right?Um, I thought that at the time, but now I am convinced that the Cardinals were just simply complying with the league’s request to take the pick down to the last seconds. Not only for the suspense factor---but the longer the draft is, the more the networks make in advertising. But why oh why didn’t the Cardinals handle the Josh Rosen situation more prudently and compassionately? This is the question that I kept asking Seth over and over during our several phone calls before the draft. Seth, as always, had smart answers. He said that if the team traded Josh Rosen two weeks prior to the draft and an unbelievable trade offer came the Cardinals’ way where the Cardinals would have to gamble that their top choice would still be available where they pick, they could have wound up losing Rosen and Murray.Seth also pointed out something I never thought of, but now it seems perfectly clear, is it is wise for a team to wait to make sure that nothing happens Stitched Chandler Jones Jersey , thank goodness, to their top pick.So---as it turned out the Cardinals had struck a verbal agreement on a contract with Kyler Murray and his agent, in the event that Kyler would be taken #1.The Cardinals had all their ducks in a row. And moment before the pick was made, Kliff Kingsbury called Josh Rosen to tell him, “We think the world of you. It’s not you. It’s me.”Yes, the Cardinals and GM Steve Keim come across as looking foolish when they then finally started making phone calls about Josh Rosen. But, they had done exactly what the NFL wanted them to do and they played the scenario as safely and conservatively as possible. Some draft pundits insisted that Josh Rosen would have been the top QB prospect in this year’s draft---which makes the Cardinals cautiousness sound worse. However, it is so rare that a 1st round QB gets traded after one season---it would be like trying to trade your 2018 Toyota for a new 2019 Toyota of the same model. Furthermore, when one looks at the draft grades for the top rated 2018 and 2019 QBs, the numbers do not work in Josh Rosen’s favor. For example, on NFL.com, here were their grades:7.00---Sam Darnold6.25---Kyler Murray6.20---Dwayne Haskins6.19---Josh Rosen6.04---Baker Mayfield5.98---Drew Lock5.91---Lamar Jackson5.90---Josh Allen5.81---Daniel JonesNow---I don’t entirely agree with those ratings, nor do most of you, I imagine. But, it’s an interesting comparison. And Baby Chandler Jones Jersey , it didn’t help Rosen’s cause that he played and struggled under such difficult circumstances last year. Obviously, anyone looking at these ratings now would rearrange them and there’s no way that Baker Mayfield would be ranked 5th, or so one would imagine. On the eve of the draft, NFL Network’s David Carr was asked to what his rankings would be and here is what he wrote on the white board:1. Mayfield2. Murray3. Darnold4. Haskins5. Allen6. Jones7. Rosen8. Jackson9. LockCarr said that for him it was a toss up between Mayfield and Murray, but he gave Mayfield the edge for having already played a year in the NFL and performed commendably. As the draft played out, obviously the Giants, Redskins and Broncos had Daniel Jones, Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock (respectively) rated higher than Josh Rosen. Please know that I am not trying to suggest that those three QBs are better and more talented than Josh Rosen, because I actually do not believe that. Thus, my point is, despite waiting until the draft to actively shop Josh Rosen, I think the Cardinals did about as well as they could anyway, especially seeing as they were able to acquire one of the favorite players in the draft, WR Andy Isabella and add a 2020 5th round pick.Yes, we don’t know what advantages the Cardinals could have gained by being transparent and by shopping Josh Rosen a few weeks before the draft. What we do know is that the NFL’s newest strategy in doing all they can to keep the fans in suspense is working---and it is working big-time. Not only on Day 1 where this year they drew a whopping record 6.1M viewers Best Chandler Jones Jersey , but also on Day 2 when they drew 5.7M (a 19% increase from last year), outdrawing the Golden State Warriors playoff game by 2.7M.What we also know is that the draft this year drew 600,000 people into the streets of Nashville. Wow. That’s up from the 200,000 fans the draft drew in Philadelphia two years ago. Having the draft covered by three stations was a boon---and just maybe this will inspire the league to make NFL games more readily and affordably available to out of town fans and thereby eliminate the NFL Sunday Ticket DirecTV monopoly. While old-timers like myself loved the draft better when to was Rounds 1-3 on Saturday day and Rounds 4-7 on Sunday day---I have to admit the new format is growing on me. The sights and sounds of that crowd in Nashville were exhilarating---and while the NFL drags the procedure along tediously at times, at least we get the draft started two days earlier. My biggest dilemma right now is which network I prefer. I still love listening to Mel Kiper---for years I bought his Blue Book and he was gracious in taking my phone calls back in the early days. But I find Todd McShay somewhat annoying and I miss the Kiper/Jon Gruden dynamic. This year I had a hard time sticking with them.On NFL Network, I think Rich Eisen is a hoot and I very much enjoy and appreciate Daniel Jeremiah, Steve Mariucci, Charles Davis and special guest, David Shaw (he is fantastic)---plus I thought Joel Klatt and Peter Schrager were positive additions this year. Moreover, the NFL Network stayed much more on top of the picks as they were made, especially on Day 3. That’s why I would give NFLN an A and ESPN a B. What was your experience this year and what are your thoughts? I love hearing what everyone else has to say. What irked me the most, other than having to wait the whole 10 minutes on the #1 pick (making the draft already 25 minutes old by then), was Goodell starting the draft with the super fan contest. I mean, “c’mon, man.” It’s such a long wait for the draft----it just shows how clueless at times Roger Goodell is in understanding what the fans really want. Plus Adult Chandler Jones Jersey , I thought Steve Smith’s rant about Josh Rosen was egregiously wrong and unwarranted. However, when all was said and done, this was my favorite draft for the Cardinals and thus the viewing experience felt all the more special. (Besides very white.) I would expect some variation with his defensive value based on the position, but would could we assume his offensive output would remain the same? I look forward to your take on this, and I’ll listen off the air. Jayhawkkirk“Give me a team full of Whit Merrifields and I’d win championships”First off, I’m sure Rex Hudler has said this either on-air or inside his head when watching Merrifield. You may be familiar with an experiment from a few years ago where someone put together a team made solely of Adam Dunns, Dee Gordons, Bartolo Colons, and The Koji Ueharas. As Kirk points out, yes, this team would be whiter than Cool Whit Whip and mayonnaise mixed together and put on white bread in a snowstorm. But more importantly, would this be a good team? Yeah...it probably would be pretty good. There have been teams in the past that featured mostly good and above average players, disregarding the stars and scrubs approach. This years LA Dodgers batting core didn’t feature any one star for most of the season (save for midseason acquisitionManny Machado) and still made it to the World Series. That squad had six batters finish between three and five wins above replacement:Justin Turner (4.5 bWAR)Max Muncy (4.5)Cody Bellinger (4.2)Chris Taylor (4.1)Yasmani Grandal (3.3)Enrique Hernandez (3.3)With Yasiel Puig coming in close at 2.7. Even the “laggards” on the sheet were still average or so, with Joc Pederson (2.3) and Matt Kemp (1.1) filling out the overall lineup card. But what would a team of Merrifields actually look like? Well let’s find nine players, one matching each position (AL rules here so eight and a DH) that are closest in results to Whit’s 2018 season. We are going to narrow it to players since 1973 (the start of the DH rule) and look at single seasons. This could lead to random names who had just one good year filling out our lineup but we’ll defer to guys who had good overall careers if it is close. Now there is going to be some trickiness in the positional adjustment. We’ll call Merrifield roughly a league average at second base. However a league average defending 2B isn’t as good in value to league average SS, just as an average defending right fielder isn’t as good as an average defending center fielder. To adjust for that, FanGraphs has their defensive metrics which take raw run totals and adjust them for a position. For a baseline, here is 2018 Whit Merrifield12 HR45 SB.134 ISO120 wRC+7.4 BsR2.8 DEF5.2 fWARCatcher - 1986 Bob BrenlyOkay so not many catchers steal 40+ bases (John Wathan’s 36 bases stolen in 1982 might be the record for a catcher), so we are going to be automatically working at a disadvantage in finding someone. Still, the best I could find (while trying to match as many criteria as possible) is 1986 Bob Brenly:16 HR10 SB.157 ISO113 wRC+-0.5 BsR1.3 DEF2.8 fWARA little disappointed in that WAR total but we are working with profile boundaries here.First Base - 2014 Todd FrazierAs with catchers, racking up steals as a first baseman isn’t a trait often seen. The same handicap is given for defense as well. Meanwhile 1B is known for power, and Merrifield took a step back in that in 2018. So we’ve got 2014 Todd Frazier.29 HR20 SB.186 ISO122 wRC+4.4 BsR0.9 DEF4.5 WARSecond Base - 2008 Brian RobertsYeah, I suppose we could just use Merrifield here but where is the fun in that? Let’s use Brian Roberts, who actually might be the best criteria fit in this entire thing.9 HR40 SB.154 ISO119 wRC+5.8 BsR1.2 DEF4.7 WARShortstop - 2006 Derek JeterWe are going to hit the heavy over on wRC+ with Jeter but we are going to come in fairly nicely in the other peripherals. Jeter’s defense was always overrated but in 2006 he was putting up near career high hitting numbers and a career high in stolen bases.14 HR34 SB.140 ISO138 wRC+5.2 BsR-1.2 DEF6.1 WARThird Base - 2016 Jose RamirezThe year Ramirez broke out and told the world he was an elite player (he was 23 years old to boot), Ramirez is an excellent base runner who can add value on the bags without racking up gaudy stolen base figures. He’s of course also a good hitter and decent fielder at the hot corner.11 HR22 SB.150 ISO119 wRC+8.6 BsR1.6 DEF4.6 WARRight Field - 1974 Bobby BondsOkay I hope you noticed the year and the first name on a second read. While Barry Bonds is the better half of the father/son duo, Bobby was no slouch. The elder Bonds was worth almost 60 wins in his career, put 300+ home runs and 400+ stolen bases to his name. His 1974 season fits very tightly.21 HR41 SB.178 ISO121 wRC+4.2 BsR0.2 DEF4.4 WARCenter Field - 2000 Johnny DamonHey we found an ex-Royals player! This would be Damon’s final season as a Royals before being shipped off to Oakland (then signing a big deal with the Red Sox), Merrifield actually kinda shares of profile traits with Damon. Bonus points that they are both leadoff hitters.16 HR46 SB.168 ISO115 wRC+5.2 BsR1.4 DEF4.5 WARLeft Field - 2006 Alfonso SorianoOkay we’ve definitely gone off the track in the power department but we’ll pick up some points in other metrics. Soriano had two big years in 2003 and 2004 before going to the Rangers in the Alex Rodriguez trade. There he would be a “disappointment”, being worth about half his value in those two year. Immediately after joining the recently created Washington Nationals, Soriano bounced back with a career high ISO and home run total. Putting up only one of four 40/40 seasons in baseball history.46 HR41 SB.283 ISO129 wRC+3.9 BsR-0.5 DEF5.4 WARDesignated Hitter - 1988 Paul MolitorWe aren’t going to find an above average fielding DH, just by nature of the position and the metric. There were though some above average base running designated hitters. Molitor fits our overall bill mostly, and also checks in with a nice steal total for a DH. Truth be told, Molitor fit our criteria in three different seasons (1988 http://www.twinsfanproshop.com/authentic-max-kepler-jersey , 1992, and 1994) with 1988 probably being the closest fit of them.13 HR41 SB.140 ISO133 wRC+3.8 BsR-3.7 DEF5.3 WAROur lineupWe ended up over on home runs, under on stolen bases, and missed baserunning and difference by ~2.5 runs. I think we hit wRC+ spot on (came in 3% high) and got as reasonably close as we could ask for ISO and WAR.How many games would that team win? It would have to be 90+ at least when the worst hitter in your lineup has a 113 wRC+. If a team made up of replacement level players come in ~45 wins, then adding the Kansas City Merrifields (~47 wins) gets you to92 wins and we haven’t counted pitchers yet. Even a cromulent pitching staff should get you 13-15 wins, so now we are at ~105 wins. This would be a good baseball team, even if we don’t know the pitching staff or the backups to the starting nine. Having a lineup of Merrifields in-and-of itself should make you a contending team.We run into a snag just out of hand. We are comparing players across different eras of baseball. While wRC+ adjusts for that, a home run in the early-2000s isn’t worth the same as a home run today (it’s worth more today). So while the raw totals of home runs, steals, and ISO might be wide, we’ve got an adjustment made in wRC+. That helps a bit and reflects how Soriano can go 40/40 and be worth not that much more than Damon’s 16/46 a half decade earlier. Here is what the real experiment would be, and maybe worth an article down the road: since we know most of the inputs for WAR, we could simply take Merrifield’s offensive and defensive runs above average, adjust them for each different position, add the baserunning/replacement/league adjustments, and then we’d have WAR totals for Merrifield. That takes a little bit of math and elbow grease. It is doable (and I think you would just need to make the positional adjustments but I could be wrong), so we’ll keep it in our pockets for next time. Baseball America writer Kyle Glaser talks about Dodger prospects including Dennis Santana, Jeter Downs and Jeren Kendall"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections 2019 Spring TrainingProspectsCommentaryNews and NotesInterviewsProspectsPart two of interview with Kyle GlaserNew,51commentsBaseball America writer Kyle Glaser talks about Dodger prospects including Dennis Santana, Jeter Downs and Jeren KendallPDTShareTweetShareSharePart two of interview with Kyle GlaserRon Chenoy-USA TODAY SportsHere is the second part of my interview with Baseball America writer Kyle Glaser. In the first part, Glaser talked about prospects Tony Gonsolin and Gavin Lux, the Dodgers farm system and how teams raising the pay to their minor leaguers would make for even better development of their skills. In the second part, Glaser discussed pitching prospects Dennis Santana, Mitch White and Yadier Alvarez, what he hopes to see from infielder Jeter Downs and how Jeren Kendall has to hit better to become a major league outfielder. Two years ago, Yadier Alvarez, Mitch White, Walker Buehler and Dennis Santana were all in the Rancho Cucamonga rotation, what are Glaser’s thoughts on the progress of Alvarez, White and Santana? In the 2019 Dodgers Top 30 prospects, Glaser ranked Dennis Santana seventh and Mitch White ninth. He had them both ranked as starting pitchers.Yadier Alvarez was ranked 14th as a right-handed reliever.Going into the 2017 season, Alvarez was ranked second, Buehler was 11th, White was 19th and Santana was not ranked.“You know Rod Carew Jersey , it’s funny going into that season, everyone was all about Yadier Alvarez and he was considered the guy,” Glaser said,” when I went out there and did some reporting and talked to coaches and managers around the league, every single one of them said, you know, Dennis Santana’s the guy, he’a better than Alvarez.”“So I go, ‘okay,’ so I am curious to see this for myself and then I did see this for myself.” “Dennis Santana has a fastball with movement,” Glaser said, “and no, his command’s not great, he throws it for strikes.”“He has a slider, you know, that is definitely an out pitch against right-handed batters and he knows how to keep it over the plate to make it competitive pitch.”“It was clear even then that was those were two things Yadier Alvarez didn’t have, as much as his fastball had velocity, there is close to zero command of it,” Glaser said, “and his slider as much as there is some break to it, it is a non-competitive pitch at least two out of every five because you can see it out of his hand and it wasn’t going to be anywhere near the strike zone.”“It’s interesting to me that right away, even in A-Ball, people said Santana’s the better of the two of these guys and we’ve seen that.”“Santana’s a big leaguer, obviously health knocked him out last year before he could make his first start, he made his first appearance, supposed to make his first start but it knocked him out”“The changeup has continued to develop,” Glaser said, “depending on how much more it continues to develop, maybe it’s a number four starter.Even if it’s not, that’s a power arm reliever with a upper 90s fastball and a power slider that can get same-sided hitters out.”Mitchell White pitched a career high 105鈪?innings in 2018 but he also missed the first month of the season while staying in extended spring training. The 2016 draft pick has pitched just over 200 innings in his career.“Mitchell White, people have always liked him but again, health,” Glaser said, “and it’s tough to ever be fully convicted on a guy Brian Dozier Jersey , there’s always something that is keeping him off the mound for a month or six weeks every season.”“When he’s right, he has a chance to be the best of them but it’s just been tough for him to quote-unquote be right because he’s rarely ever healthy enough to be right for long stretches of time.”“Alvarez threw hard, he was the least effective actual pitcher of the three and that wasn’t that hard to see,” Glaser said, “maybe Yadier Alvarez if he figures out some fastball command and then the slider takes a step forward, and then the last year in Double-A, they moved him to stretch full-time and it got a lot better. So maybe he can build off of that.”“Dennis Santana has a chance to be an effective starter in the major leagues, Mitchell White, if he’s healthy, has a chance to be an effective starter in the major leagues,” Glaser said, “Yadier Alvarez is a reliever and while relievers are valuable, he’s really not a closer because he doesn’t throw enough competitive pitches and he also doesn’t have the competitive makeup.”“You are kind of looking at a sixth or seventh inning guy who throws hard and might have some control issues. Again, it is better to have that arm and try and work with it then lack any power arms in your system but again it goes Santana, White, Alvarez in the rankings for a reason.”The Dodgers enhanced their depth with the addition of Jeter Downs Jeter Downs was assigned to Rancho Cucamonga where he will begin his first season as a Dodger prospect playing for the Quakes.Downs was the Cincinnati Reds first round pick in 2017 and played in Class-A Midwest League in 2018.“Yeah I mean you are talking about a really impressive athlete, you have seen the speed in terms of stolen bases,” Glaser said,” and even though he might not be shortstop long term, he already didn’t play shortstop primarily last year, he can play second, he can play third and again he didn’t tear the Midwest League up offensively, you saw some ability to control the strike zone.”“Anytime you mix some athleticism with at least on paper and early scouting reports indicate baseball smarts to go on top of that, controlling the strike zone, knowing when to run, he has a chance to be pretty good.”“Now, he’s still young, he’s still a teenager, and the jump from Low-A to High-A is big one, so we’ll see,” Glaser said, “I think it is important to remember he’s a very talented young man, even in terms of coming out of the draft and where he would ranked in the Red’s system, a very good player never seen as superstar franchise type but you see some ingredients you can dream on Justin Morneau Jersey , he’s still young.” “The Dodgers have certainly taken some young guys and had them make big jumps before especially that age 19 into 20 and 20 to 21 seasons.I’ll be curious to see what’s he able to do in Rancho this year but there is no doubt he’s ready for the level and I think at the very least you will see some athleticism and some baseball smarts and an effective player. And then again whatever developments he can make offensively under the Dodger’s watch, you know there’s a chance to be more.”In order to succeed as a major league player, Jeren Kendall has to improve his hittingGlaser wrote back in January in Baseball America that “the average major league reserve or platoon outfielder hit .283/.357/.439 in his minor league career.”Jeren Kendall, the Dodgers first round pick in 2017, has hit .224/.301/.377 in 608 at-bats with 207 strikeouts and 65 walks.I asked Glaser about his article and Jeren Kendall.“It is something that is pretty well established, I mean even the guys in the big leagues you think of as all-glove, no-hit backups,” Glaser said, “they all hit in the minors, you don’t get to the majors hitting .220 against A-ballers, you just don’t, no matter what your defense is, so it is a big year.”Glaser said that there is still hope with Jeren Kendall because you can look back to the summer of 2016 when he played on Team USA at Dodger Stadium and he showed what kind of baseball player he could be.“He was the best player on the field, he was hitting for power,” Glaser said, “he was showing the ability to make contact, play the small game, play the big game. do it all.”“And even at Vanderbilt, when the strikeouts that junior season started to become concerning,” Glaser said, “I could still see a competitive stance and solid quality contacts even though the strikeouts were a little more often than you like.”“What he shown last year with the Dodgers it was just, I wrote this in the Handbook and it was true, it was a non-competitive inanimate stance,” Glaser said, “he was behind everything.”“He just needs to kind of find what it was that made him successful in years past, it’s in there but if he goes through another season like he did last year and the trend has been it gotten a little worst every year,” Glaser said, “in 2016 hey this guy could be a top ten pick, and then in 2017, okay we can’t take him in top ten but we’ll still take him in the first round and now 2018, it’s like man this guy might not get out of Double-A.”“The trend needs to be reversed and I think that in that sense, this is a big year for Jeren Kendall to show he can hit and he can get back to the competitive at-bats he had shown in 2016 and prior.”

A community discussion and poll on the nature of fandom"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Twinkie Town Farm ReportSatire http://www.dodgersfanproshop.com/authentic-max-muncy-jersey , Irreverence, & Other HumorGame RecapsCommunity Discussion: Would you rather see the Twins win it all once, or be competitive for a long time?New,54commentsA community discussion and poll on the nature of fandomESTShareTweetShareShareCommunity Discussion: Would you rather see the Twins win it all once, or be competitive for a long time?Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports Our own Jonathan Gamble recently put up an amazing piece defining a competitive window. If you haven’t read that, go do so now. Don’t worry, this is pre-written text. Even in the event of the apocalypse, the power grid should still be up for a few days. You’ve got time! It’ll still be where you left it when you come back. Done? Cool. While reading that I came upon his opening definition:My immediate gut reaction was to disagree. That isn’t to say he’s wrong, (in fact I imagine he could pen a better argument than I would.) but it is to say that what an individual defines as “success” is variable. Take our own beloved Twinkies from 2001-2010. In that 10 year span they won the division 6 times, came in2nd twice (one of which being losing a game 163) and 3rd twice. That certainly feels like an “open” window to me. However, once we put the post-season into the discussion we see that only once did those same Twins win a post-season series, that being the 2002 team that beat the Moneyball Oakland team and paved the way for a Hollywood movie to feature a scene of a conspicuously skinny Eddie Guardado jumping for joy while Brad Pitt looks sad. That team would then manage to win an entire one games in the ALCS.With the post-season in mind, was that 10 year run a success or a failure? I can certainly see the argument for both, even if I easily consider it a success. What do we as fans really want out of “our” teams? We’re strange creatures that can both profess our love for our favorite player and then harshly condemn them for leaving after “our” billionaire decides to not offer them their market value. We’re the ones who can enjoy every moment of a 162 game season only to bemoan the whole thing as a waste the moment they lose a playoff series. It is here you lovely people come in! I would like to present to you two (somewhat extreme) 10 year histories of hypothetical teams, and then present you with a poll asking which team you would prefer tobe a fan of. Please vote and discuss below to satiate my curiosity. I promise to track down every single user who doesn’t and openly weep into their morning breakfast cereal, you horrible and evil bastards. TEAM A:Team A tanks the first 4 years Mike Piazza Jersey , losing 90-100 games each miserable season. After one season of mediocrity they go all in and manage to win the World Series. The next season they lose early in the playoffs. In their 8th season things fall apart, and by the trade deadline the rebuild has began anew. The next 2 season are unmitigated disasters similar to the first 4.TEAM B:Team B wins its division or the wildcard 7 times in its 10 year run. Two of the years it does not, the team takes second and is in the race until late in the season. One year of bad luck is mixed somewhere within, and the team is mediocre and mostly out of the post season equation by mid-season. Despite all the opportunities, Team B never once reaches the world series. And the poll: Bowie was the big winner on the Orioles farm Tuesday, with Rylan Bannon leading the way."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Commentary & AnalysisOrioles ProspectsOrioles Game RecapsOrioles News and RumorsCamdencastOrioles ProspectsOrioles minor league recap 4/10: The Machado trade guys shine in BowieNew,2commentsBowie was the big winner on the Orioles farm Tuesday, with Rylan Bannon leading the way.EDTShareTweetShareShareOrioles minor league recap 4/10: The Machado trade guys shine in BowieTommy Gilligan-USA TODAY SportsCharlotte (White Sox) 4, Norfolk Tides 0 (Game 1 - 7 innings)A Monday rainout pushed the Tides and Knights into a Tuesday doubleheader. The original starter for Norfolk for Game 1, Josh Rogers, was scratched because he’s being summoned to Baltimore to take Alex Cobb’s spot on the roster with Cobb on the injured list. That meant the Tides staff had to patch together a bullpen game, with a second game still to come. At least minor league doubleheaders are only scheduled for seven innings.Emergency starter Sean Gilmartin gave up two runs in three innings, about as much as could be hoped in the circumstances. Stacey’s cousin Lucas Long (not actually Stacey’s cousin) gave up a pair of runs in two innings. Tanner Scott struck out two and walked one in a scoreless inning. The Tides really lost this game because their offense combined to safely get on base just five times. DJ Stewart, with a hit and a walk, accounted for two of the five times.Charlotte (White Sox) 3, Norfolk Tides 0 (Game 2 - 7 innings)This second game of the doubleheader began at about 10pm last night http://www.dodgersfanproshop.com/authentic-max-muncy-jersey , which doesn’t sound fun for anybody. It especially wasn’t fun for the Norfolk hitters, who managed to do even worse in the second game than they did in the first, notching just one hit and one walk for the duration. Stewart picked up the lone Tides hit. This was a scoreless game until the bottom of the sixth inning, when reliever Branden Kline, working his second inning, fell apart. In almost the blink of an eye, three runs were on the board and the Tides went quietly in the top of the seventh to end the doubleheader.Yefry Ramirez pitched four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four. He threw 58 pitches, so it wasn’t like he was pulled due to a high pitch count. Perhaps they’re trying to keep him available for reinforcing the MLB bullpen on short rest in a few days.Bowie Baysox 8, Richmond (Giants) 5 - 10 inningsWhat I want to see when I look at a minor league box score is when guys who might actually be prospects are doing well. Infielder Rylan Bannon, part of last July’s Manny Machado trade, had a big night for the Baysox, going 3-4 with a pair of RBI. He also drew a walk. Fellow Machado trade return Yusniel Diaz was 1-4 with a walk on the night. Outfielder Ryan McKenna reached base three times, with a triple and two walks. Bannon and McKenna are both OPSing above 1.000 on the young minor league season. Diaz, at a .691 OPS, at least headed in the right direction tonight.Reliever Zach Pop Chase Utley Jersey , still another part of that Machado trade, pitched two shutout innings with a pair of strikeouts. Not as positive: Former Rule 5 pick Pedro Araujo, freshly banished from the Orioles and assigned to Bowie, faced four batters, retired none, and gave up three runs. That puts him in the infinite ERA club.Fayetteville (Astros) 7, Frederick Keys 2A positive about Frederick’s roster early this season is that just about any night you go, you’re going to see at least a vaguely interesting starting pitcher. In Tuesday’s game, this was Brenan Hanifee, the righty from a family of Orioles fans, who improved over his first start of the year by giving up just two runs in five innings. Still a lot of baserunners though, with five hits and three walks and only two strikeouts. Better luck next time.Even on a good night there’s not a lot to say about Frederick’s lineup. There are not many position player prospects of note here. Tuesday’s game was not a good night anyway, with Keys batters combining for just five hits. First baseman J.C. Escarra, seen often in late innings in spring training, had a multi-hit night.Delmarva Shorebirds 8, Kannapolis (White Sox) 5 - 10 inningsLike the Baysox higher up in the O’s system http://www.dodgersfanproshop.com/authentic-max-muncy-jersey , the Shorebirds took their free extra innings runner, brought him home, and then some in a decisive four-run 10th inning. The #30 prospect by MLB Pipeline, Robert Neustrom, tied the game for Delmarva in the ninth inning with a clutch three-run home run. Neustrom was 3-5 overall in the game and also stole his second base of the year. Also on base three times for the Shorebirds was last year’s competitive balance pick, Cadyn Grenier, playing second base on Tuesday. Grenier went 1-2 in addition to drawing a pair of walks. On the mound for Delmarva, stalled once-prospect Ofelky Peralta got the start. He struck out ten batters in the game, which is eye-popping. Less exciting is that he only pitched 3.2 innings. That’s impressive in its own way: 10 of his 11 outs were strikeouts. Peralta gave up four hits and a walk as well.Complete box scores from Tuesday’s set of games can be found here.Wednesday’s Scheduled GamesNorfolk: at Charlotte, 7:04pm (that’s what it says) Starter: Gabriel YnoaBowie: at Richmond, 10:35am. The Dodgers have won just one time in five previous seasons in which a tiebreaker game was needed. The Cubs and Brewers will settle the NL Central, while the Dodgers and Rockies battle for the NL West. Both games have the safety net of the wild card came on Tuesday, something the previous 14 tie breaking scenarios didn’t include. For the Dodgers, breaking the tie hasn’t been kind to them in their previous five appearances. The only win came in 1959 when they would go on to win the World Series in their second year in Los Angeles. There were no divisions in the two leagues prior to 1969, and through the 1962 season, ties were settled with a best-of-three series to decide who represented the league in the World Series. The Dodgers played in four of the five series decided this way, winning just the one.1946The first tie that needed extra games came in 1946 between the Cardinals and Dodgers. St. Louis won the first two games to earn a trip to the World Series against the Red Sox, where they would win in seven games. That was the Cardinals sixth championship in nine tries from 1926 to 1946.1951Then there was one of the most famous instances in baseball history in 1951 when the Dodgers and Giants played a series to decide who would play the Yankees. Brooklyn lost the first game but came back to win 10-0 in the Polo Grounds in Game 2. The Dodgers broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the top of the eighth inning, taking 4-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth. But as we all know, the Giants put four on the board in the ninth, ending the Dodgers season on Bobby Thomson’s three-run homer that became known as the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World.”The Giants would go on to lose to the Yankees in six games.1959When the 1959 season came to a close, the Dodgers and Milwaukee Braves needed a series to settle the National League. Los Angeles took the first two games to quickly dispatch Hank Aaron and the Braves Freddy Galvis Jersey , going on to beat the White Sox in six games for their second title in five seasons.1962It was the Giants and Dodgers again in 1962, with San Francisco winning two of the three. The Giants took the first game, knocking Sandy Koufax from the game with no outs in the second inning. Koufax had missed two months of the season, coming back September 21 to give up seven runs in 7 2鈦? combined innings in three starts prior to the games with the Giants. The Dodgers took Game 2 and had a 4-2 lead in the ninth with just three outs separating them from another trip to the World Series. But the Giants would score four times in the top half of the inning, holding on to win the series.San Francisco would again go on to lose to the Yankees in the Fall Classic.1980The Dodgers only shot of the one-game variety came in 1980 when they played the Astros at Dodger Stadium for a trip to the NLCS. Houston jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first and never looked back, tacking on two in the third and three in the fourth for a 7-1 win.Houston went on to lose to the Phillies in five games, needing extra innings to decide the final meeting.——The Dodgers are the only team in baseball with more than three trips to a tiebreaker, going 1-4. The Rockies are mailing their second appearance, beating the Padres in 2007 and eventually appearing in the World Series. Colorado would be swept by the Red Sox. Let’s hope there isn’t another Matt Holliday situation, because he still hasn’t touched home plate. The Dodgers have six weeks to find their starting catcher."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections 2019 Spring TrainingProspectsCommentaryNews and NotesDodgers News & NotesThe Dodgers need to figure out the catching situation New,515commentsPSTShareTweetShareShareThe Dodgers need to figure out the catching situation Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY SportsIn the late hours of Tuesday night, Ken Rosenthal reported that Yasmani Grandal had agreed to a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. Grandal, a free-agent, was arguably the best available catcher currently on the market. In November Randal Grichuk Jersey , Grandal turned down a one-year deal worth $17.9 million from the Dodgers. His new deal with Milwaukee is reportedly for $18.25 million, roughly about $350,000 more than the Dodgers offered. The Dodgers weren’t the only offer he rejected, after he supposedly turned down a four-year contract worth around $60 million from the New York Mets as well. With Grandal off the market, the choices for the Dodgers are very slim heading into 2019. As it currently stands, it looks like Austin Barnes will be the starting catcher on opening day. After a season in which Barnes hit .205, LA may be likely to look towards someone else. Luckily for the Dodgers, they have a pretty good catcher in their farm season. Keibert Ruiz was recently named the No. 1 prospect in LA’s minor-league system, according to Baseball America. Unfortunately for the Dodgers, Ruiz won’t be ready for the start of the 2019 season. Only 20 years old, Ruiz has yet to play ball above the double-A level. He played 101 games for Tulsa last year, hitting .268 with an OPS of .728. With Ruiz not being ready, it looks as if the Dodgers will test the free-agent market, looking to sign a player to a one-year contract. And no Jose Bautista Jersey , they are not trading for J.T. Realmuto. Well, at least I don’t believe they will. The first, and likely best option at this point is Martin Maldonado. Hitting only nine homers in 2018, it’s definitely a drop-off compared to Grandal in regards to power. However, he would be a significant upgrade in regards to his defensive ability. He’s been a finalist for the Gold Glove award the last two seasons, taking home the honors in 2017. Many make the case he’s the best defensive catcher in the game today. At 32, he’s only two years older than Grandal, and will be a lot cheaper. Another 32-year-old option would be Matt Wieters. From 2011-2016, Weiters made four All-Star teams, and was one of the best catchers in the game. Over the last few years, his game has slowly declined, hitting only .238 last season with eight home runs. His health is a major concern as well, as he’s only appeared in 424 games over the last five seasons, an average of 85 games a year. As we take a leap in age http://www.bluejaysfanproshop.com/authentic-curtis-granderson-jersey , we come across Nick Hundley. At 35, Hundley actually showed the most power amongst the name mentioned, hitting 10 homers in 2018. His .241 average is right on par with Grandal’s too. Though, he is a defensive liability, posting a -0.5 defensive WAR. If the Dodgers don’t sign a catcher, there’s a possibility they trade for one. Last month, LA was rumored to be interested in Francisco Cervelli, the starting catcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 2018, the 32-year-old hit .259 with an OPS of .809. He had 12 home runs and drove in 57. It’s unclear how much truth there was to that rumor, but adding Cervelli definitely would be a solid addition for LA. It would also work out perfectly, as he has only one year remaining on his contract. Spring training begins in only six weeks, and it’s unclear what the Dodgers plan to do. With a void at second base as well, LA is likely to make a handful of moves still.

Both projection systems have Castillo playing just shy of 100 games, which seems like it might be an underestimation. But James McCann slots in with projections of 40ish games, so let’s just leave that balance stand.Running wins total: 50.6First Base: Yonder Alonso (0.9) will split time at first base with Jos茅 Abreu, but let’s slot him here, as the better fielder and better bet to avoid mysterious/weird injuries.RWT: 51.5Second Base: Yoan Moncada (2.2)RWT: 53.7Shortstop: Tim Anderson (1.3) (Ick.)RWT: 55.0Third Base: Yolmer Sanchez (1.5) and Jos茅 Rond贸n (0.3). Rond贸n will fill a swiss army role in the infield, possibly even spotting at first base at times.RWT: 56.8Left Field: Eloy Jimenez (3.3) and Jon Jay (0.1). Will Eloy play in left or right, if the right field option ends up being Daniel Palka instead of, say, Bryce Harper? Let’s slot him in left, due to the “defensive improvements” he’ll need to make before he’s even called up in 2019. Jay may end up stealing at-bats more from Adam Engel than Eloy, but no matter what, he’s not projecting as any sort of impact player, full-time or part-.(Since initially publishing, Jay has replaced Delmonico, a loss of 0.3 projected WAR.)RWT: 60.2Center Field: Adam Engel (0.1)Leury Garcia (0.2). Leury is projected for a healthy 300 at-bats, taken all around the diamond, but let’s just plop him in left.RWT: 60.5Right Field: Daniel Palka (0.6). It’s not ideal, playing Palka in the field. But with Alonso in the fold and no other notable outfield acquisitions, he’s back out roaming the pasture.RWT: 61.1Designated Hitter: Jose Abreu (2.4).RWT: 63.5 — we’ve blown under the 100-loss mark!Rotation: Reynaldo Lopez (0.9), Carlos Rodon (1.5), Iv谩n Nova (0.8), Lucas Giolito (0.2) and Dylan Covey (0.6). Holy hell, this is projected to be a horrible rotation.RWT: 67.5Bullpen: Alex Colome (0.5), Nate Jones (0.9) Glen Perkins Jersey , Jace Fry (0.5), Kelvin Herrera (0.4), Juan Minaya (0.1), Manny Ba帽uelos (0.0), and Aaron Bummer (0.1).(Since initially publishing, Herrera has replaced Frare, a gain of 0.5 projected WAR.)RWT: 70.0Well, just 70 wins, not enough to get the White Sox out of the 90-loss range, and definitely not the step forward you want to see in this stage of the rebuild. As before, there is some WAR scrapple from additional subs perhaps not accounted for, but these guys are all being estimated pretty much at full-time, so I’d say any uptick in WAR and overall team wins is negligible. If you want to know how this places the White Sox on a relative scale, at least per FanGraphs, these 70 wins place the team as the fifth-worst in baseball — two spots better than it ended 2018.The good news? Well, nearly any of the rumored free agents who are connected to the White Sox would be major upgrades: Manny Machado, Harper, Yasmani Grandal, Adam Ottavino. The potential to push deep into the 70 wins arena (definitely the minimum spot the White Sox should be at this stage of the rebuild), and even moving toward 80, still exists. But clearly, there is still a lot of work to do.Fingers crossed for an interesting January!

NEW YORK (AP) — It took a long time and a lot of money http://www.oriolesfanproshop.com/authentic-j.j.-hardy-jersey , but the Philadelphia Phillies finally landed Bryce Harper with a record contract. The young star outfielder and the Phillies agreed Thursday to a $330 million, 13-year contract, the largest deal in baseball history.Harper’s agent, California-based Scott Boras, said the deal was agreed to at 10:34 a.m. PST, subject to a successful physical.Phillies manager Gabe Kapler and his players learned of the agreement from fans behind Philadelphia’s dugout who saw media reports on their mobile devices during a spring training game in Clearwater, Florida.“If the reports are true, it’s a huge moment for our baseball team,” Kapler said. “Certainly I think that the city of Philadelphia would embrace Bryce Harper. I think he would be very happy in this city because our fans care deeply about winning.”A 26-year-old All-Star who had spent his entire big league career with the Washington Nationals, Harper topped the $325 million, 13-year agreement outfielder Giancarlo Stanton reached before the 2015 season with the Miami Marlins.“Harp’s goal was he wanted the largest contract and he wanted his value,” Boras said. “He wanted the largest length he could get because he really wanted to stay in one city and one uniform, wanted to get a ballpark he hit well in, saw the ball well.”Harper has a .279 career average with 184 homers and 521 RBIs, including a .268 average with 14 homers, 32 RBIs and a .930 OPS in 47 games at Citizens Bank Park. He likely would hit third or fourth, according to Kapler.“We get a whole lot better on the field,” the manager said. “Bryce Harper is a sensational teammate.”Harper’s agreement surpasses the previous high for a free agent, set last week when infielder Manny Machado signed a $300 million, 10-year deal with the San Diego Padres. Harper’s average annual value of $25.4 million ranks 14th in baseball history, well below the high of $34.1 million set by Arizona pitcher Zack Greinke as part of a $206.5 million, six-year contract that started in 2016.Harper gets a $20 million signing bonus in equal installments this June 1 and Nov. 1, a $10 million salary this year, $26 million in each of the following nine seasons and $22 million in each of the last three years. None of the money is deferred, and he gets a full no-trade provision.Philadelphia will forfeit its second-highest draft selection http://www.oriolesfanproshop.com/authentic-j.j.-hardy-jersey , currently No. 55, and $500,000 of its 2019-20 international signing bonus pool allotment. Because Washington paid luxury tax last season, its compensation pick will be after the fourth round, about 140th.Following a slow offseason of negotiations that sparked outrage from the players’ association, three players in a 10-day span agreed to deals guaranteeing a total of $890 million. Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado, who would have been eligible for free agency next offseason, signed a $260 million, eight-year agreement this week.“We want our best players to sign the biggest, longest contracts,” said Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun, the 2012 NL MVP. “Overall, it’s a good day for all baseball players to see him get properly compensated.”Phillies owner John Middleton met with Harper in a Las Vegas hotel suite and at dinner around the time of the winter meetings in December and then again last weekend. Boras said Middleton’s wife, Leigh, and Harper’s wife, Kayla, were part of the gathering.“Bryce just really enjoyed John’s passion for winning and the commitment he could make to the franchise,” Boras said.Philadelphia has been among the most active teams this offseason, adding outfielder Andrew McCutchen for $50 million over three years and reliever David Robertson for $23 million over two years, and acquiring catcher J.T. Realmuto and shortstop Jean Segura.“We thought we were a complete team. Now, we’re even more of a complete team,” McCutchen said.Philadelphia also gave ace Aaron Nola a $45 million, four-year deal.“Pretty cool,” Nola said. “Glad to claim him and looking forward to him getting here.”After leading their division in early August, the Phillies went 16-33 over the final 49 games of last season and at 80-82 finished with a losing record for the sixth straight season. Harper will return to his old home in the season’s second week Jonathan Schoop Jersey , when the Phillies play at the NL East rival Nationals on April 2 and 3.San Francisco and the Los Angeles Dodgers had also pursued Harper in recent weeks, and the Giants offered $310 million over 12 years, a person familiar with the talks said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the proposal was not publicly revealed. San Francisco’s plan would be less lucrative to Harper because of high California taxes.Boras said shorter-term offers had average annual values as high as $42.5 million.Boras was the agent for a record contract for the fourth time after pitcher Kevin Brown’s $105 million, seven-year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the 1999 season, Alex Rodriguez’s $252 million, 10-year agreement with Texas before the 2001 season and Rodriguez’s $275 million, 10-year contract with the New York Yankees before the 2008 season.Harper has been an All-Star in six of seven big league seasons and was the unanimous winner of the 2015 NL MVP award. An up-and-down defender and an unusual mix of popular and polarizing, Harper is known for the occasional contretemps with opponents, one particular exchange with a reporter about a “clown question,” and, most infamously, a dugout dustup in which he was choked by then-teammate Jonathan Papelbon during a game.Washington took him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 amateur draft and called him up to the majors less than two years later at age 19. He would go on to become the 2012 NL Rookie of the Year for a Nationals club that won its first division title and made its postseason debut.Harper was also an integral part of the team that added NL East titles in 2014, 2016 and 2017 and never finished lower than second place in his seven seasons. Another key stat, though: The Nationals never won a playoff series in that span. His best year was 2015, when at age 22 he hit .330 with 42 homers, 99 RBIs, 118 runs and 124 walks, amassing an OPS of 1.109.Last year, he hit 34 homers and produced a career-high 100 RBIs while walking 130 times, although his batting average dipped to .249. He started more than a third of his games in center field instead of his usual spot in right because of injuries to teammates. With Washington’s Nationals Park hosting the 2018 All-Star Game, Harper stole the show the day before the Midsummer Classic by winning the Home Run Derby before an ecstatic crowd filled with folks wearing his No. 34 Nationals jersey. Harper wore a headband with the D.C. flag’s design, reflecting his oft-stated pride in playing for Washington. But that eventually ran its course. The Nationals made an offer toward the end of last season — a $300 million, 10-year contract that included $100 million in deferred money that Harper would have not entirely received until he was 60. The offer no longer was on the table after free agency opened without an agreement.A year after going 82-80 and missing the playoffs under rookie manager Dave Martinez, the Nationals will move forward without Harper.Washington general manager Mike Rizzo would have loved to keep Harper in his team’s lineup but didn’t sit around and wait to find out whether that would happen. Instead http://www.oriolesfanproshop.com/authentic-j.j.-hardy-jersey , Rizzo spent money elsewhere, adding lefty starter Patrick Corbin on a $140 million deal and righty starter Anibal Sanchez, along with second baseman Brian Dozier, a pair of catchers in Yan Gomes and Kurt Suzuki and two key bullpen pieces in Trevor Rosenthal and Kyle Barraclough. MESA, Ariz. (AP) — The Oakland Athletics will take a look at Robbie Grossman as a potential leadoff man when they open spring play. The Athletics host the Seattle Mariners on Thursday as the teams get a head start on spring training games. Both teams will also open the regular season ahead of the rest of the league when they face each other in Japan on March 20-21.Oakland manager Bob Melvin wanted to get Grossman in the leadoff spot as soon as he could. The A’s signed the free agent outfielder last Friday.“It’s one of the reasons we picked him up, he has a history of getting on base,” Melvin said. “He’s a guy who’s been tough on us as well. He’ll probably get some time there, break him in quickly.”Last year, the A’s used Matthew Joyce, Marcus Semien and Nick Martini in the leadoff spot. The Athletics’ lineup for Thursday also has Stephen Piscotty batting third, something Melvin said they may experiment with. Other candidates include Khris Davis, who batted fourth most of last season, and Matt Olson, who mostly batted fifth.“You look at Stephen’s numbers and he’s certainly an option for it,” Melvin said. “Last year, we were pretty consistent with our 3-4-5 spots so it may change a little bit more this year.”Third baseman Matt Chapman, who is coming off surgery on his left non-throwing shoulder, is not in Thursday’s lineup. Chapman has been taking batting practice but he’s about one week behind, Melvin said.Something else to watch as the A’s get started is how Semien and new second baseman Jurickson Profar work together. The Athletics acquired Profar from the Rangers in December.“It’s been going just fine,” Semien said. “We’ve been getting our work in on the same field every day and hitting together and taking ground balls together. He’s fitting in nicely with the group. I know he can hit and he gets to play second base every day now instead of moving around so that will be exciting to watch.”NOTES: Paul Blackburn was scheduled to start for the A’s on Thursday. If the game is canceled because of rain, Melvin said they would likely have the right-hander throw a simulated game. .. Former A’s outfielder Coco Crisp has joined the radio broadcast team as an analyst. Crisp, who played seven seasons with Oakland from 2010-16, will be in the radio booth for 33 games during the regular season. He’ll make his debut when the A’s face the San Francisco Giants on March 10 in a spring training game.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles haven’t had many shining moments this season — except against the New York Mets.Chris Davis Reggie Jackson Jersey , Adam Jones and Tim Beckham each homered to back a strong performance by starter Andrew Cashner, and the Orioles beat New York 6-3 on Tuesday night to snap a five-game skid.Baltimore won both games against the Mets at Citi Field on June 5-6 and can complete the season sweep Wednesday.Cashner (4-10) retired 10 consecutive batters before Jeff McNeil singled on a ground ball that caromed off first base in the fourth. Cashner allowed two runs and five hits with three strikeouts and three walks over seven innings.“You can talk about a lot of things about the game but it starts with the outing that Andrew had,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. “He was solid. You could tell he was carrying good stuff in the first inning. Really attacking the bottom of the zone. I think he kind of set the tone in the first inning.”Davis broke a 2-2 tie with a towering shot in the seventh off Bobby Wahl (0-1). Renato Nunez added an RBI single later that inning off Paul Sewald.“Chris can carry a ballclub for a long time, so seeing him hit that homer tonight was definitely big,” Cashner said. “Beckham and Jones, both homers were big.”Davis has struggled much of the season, batting .162 with 15 home runs. The go-ahead homer was much-needed relief.“It was nice to see a positive result, not only personally but as a team to get a win,” he said.Beckham had a two-run homer in the ninth to make it 6-2.New York pulled within three when Brandon Nimmo tripled and scored on a throwing error by reliever Miguel Castro. Mychal Givens entered and retired three straight batters to pick up his fourth save. The Orioles took a 1-0 lead off Mets starter Jason Vargas in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Mark Trumbo, who was given a platelet-rich plasma injection in his sore right knee Monday.Vargas allowed two runs over six innings, his longest outing of the season. He is winless in six career starts at Camden Yards.“I felt like I was in control of what I was doing,” Vargas said. “That was nice to go out and feel like I did (tonight). Unfortunately it hasn’t been that way for me this year. Tonight was a step in the right direction. I haven’t felt like this since some time last year.”New York took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a pair of two-out RBI singles by Kevin Plawecki and Amed Rosario.Jones tied it in the sixth with a drive over the left field fence.MOVEJones will go on the bereavement list to attend a funeral following the series finale Wednesday. He must stay on the list a minimum of three days.POWER DUODavis and Jones have homered in the same game 43 times, the most by any teammates currently in MLB.TRAINER’S ROOMMets: OF Jay Bruce (sore right hip) went 0-2 with a strikeout and walk in three plate appearances in his first rehab start for Class A St. Lucie. He played five innings in right field. … LHP Steven Matz http://www.angelsfanproshop.com/authentic-zack-cozart-jersey , who is dealing with a strained flexor pronator in his left arm, did not have any setbacks in a simulated game. He is on schedule to start Thursday in Philadelphia.Orioles: INF Steve Wilkerson (oblique) had his first rehab assignment Tuesday in the Gulf Coast League and went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.UP NEXTMets: Zack Wheeler (7-6, 3.82 ERA) is looking to win his sixth consecutive start. He held the Orioles scoreless over seven innings June 6, but did not get a decision.Orioles: Dylan Bundy (7-10, 4.70 ERA) has given up a league-leading 29 homers over his 22 starts.______ LOS ANGELES (AP) — Carson Kelly went to the batting cage three or four times as the innings rolled on. He put on his catching gear and took it off a couple of times as well, waiting for double switches that never happened while the game stretched well past midnight. When Kelly finally got to make his debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks, he came through with a hit that stopped a marathon.Kelly delivered a pinch-hit RBI double in the 13th inning, and the Diamondbacks won the longest regular-season game in Dodger Stadium history, 5-4 over Los Angeles. The 6-hour, 5-minute game ended early Saturday morning shortly after Kelly came through in his first at-bat since joining the Diamondbacks in the trade that sent franchise cornerstone Paul Goldschmidt to St. Louis.Kelly is one of three catchers on the Arizona roster, and since he didn’t get one of the season’s first two starts behind the plate, the defensive specialist was eager to contribute elsewhere. After Nick Ahmed drew a two-out walk and stole second in the 13th, Kelly got jammed on a pitch by Yimi Garcia (0-1) Yunel Escobar Jersey , but still muscled his 19th career hit just inside the right field line.“It was a great feeling,” Kelly said. “I’ve had lots of moments like that before, but this one was pretty special. We kept battling. We showed a lot of heart. We had adversity, but we battled through it.”Pinch-hitter Christian Walker hit a tying three-run homer in the seventh for Arizona. One day after giving up a franchise-record eight homers in a blowout loss on opening day, the Diamondbacks demonstrated their resilience.“I am so proud of these guys because of the fight we had,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “We got beat pretty good yesterday, and they fought all day long to win this game.”Matt Andriese (1-0) walked four and escaped several jams during 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief for Arizona. Greg Holland pitched the 13th for his first save.A.J. Pollock kicked off a four-hit performance against his former teammates with the Dodgers‘ only homer way back in the second inning, but Los Angeles blew two late leads and went scoreless in the final six innings of the team’s longest regular-season home game.“We had some opportunities late, six innings on the back end, and we couldn’t cash in,” Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said. “They got a couple of big hits when they needed them.”Corey Seager celebrated his second game back from Tommy John surgery with a tiebreaking RBI single in the seventh, but Arizona tied it again in the eighth when Ketel Marte beat out his potential double-play groundout with the bases loaded, allowing David Peralta to score.Los Angeles loaded the bases for Pollock with a two-out rally in the 10th Martin Maldonado Jersey , but Andriese made a spectacular behind-the-back stop of Pollock’s hot comebacker to end the rally.Ross Stripling pitched scoreless three-hit ball into the sixth for the Dodgers. Ray struck out nine over five innings for Arizona, but also walked five and left with a deficit when he couldn’t retire Pollock, who reached base three times.Home plate umpire Scott Barry left the game before the 12th inning. He was hit squarely in the mask by a fastball from Matt Andriese during the 10th.AJ’S TURNPollock drove in three runs and reached base five times in his second game for the Dodgers after seven seasons with Arizona. Pollock didn’t hit any of the Dodgers’ opening day-record eight homers Thursday, but he mashed a hanging slider from Robbie Ray in the second Friday. Pollock then drove a two-run single to center in the third, and he delivered a two-out double in the seventh before Seager brought him home.LONGEST TIMESThe game was longer than the 5-hour, 42-minute epic played by the Dodgers and Mets over 19 innings on May 24, 1973. It wasn’t the longest game ever in Chavez Ravine, of course: That dubious honor still belongs to the 18-inning, 7-hour and 20-minute epic played by the Dodgers and Red Sox in Game 3 of the World Series last October.KELLY’S COLLAPSEThe Dodgers were up 3-0 and apparently cruising when they brought in new reliever Joe Kelly to face Walker, who hit his second homer in two games. Kelly, the former Boston reliever, made an inauspicious debut with the Dodgers, who gave him a $25 million http://www.angelsfanproshop.com/authentic-zack-cozart-jersey , three-year deal. He gave up two more hits and another tying run in Arizona’s eighth-inning rally.RUSS RETURNSRussell Martin reached base five times in his first game since 2010 for the Dodgers, who reacquired the veteran catcher in the offseason. He walked and reached second in the 12th, but the inning ended when pinch-hitter — and opening day winning pitcher — Hyun-Jin Ryu barely failed to beat out a grounder to short.TRAINER’S ROOMDiamondbacks: 1B Jake Lamb made his season debut, going 1 for 5. Lamb had back tightness during the spring, forcing the Diamondbacks to postpone their plan to prepare Lamb to play third base more often to get Walker’s big bat in the lineup at first base.Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw will throw a three-inning simulated game Saturday in his latest step back from shoulder inflammation. The ace is likely to make at least one minor league start before returning, Roberts said.UP NEXTArizona’s Zack Godley takes the mound in search of his first victory at Dodger Stadium, where he is winless in five career appearances. He faces Kenta Maeda, who is back in the Dodgers’ rotation for now after dominating as a reliever last season and following up with a strong spring.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have to overcome a new foe from the National League Central to make it back to the World Series for the second year in a row. After battling with the Chicago Cubs for the last two seasons in the NLCS Ryan Goins Jersey , the Dodgers take on the Milwaukee Brewers with the right to play either the Boston Red Sox or Houston Astros in the World Series on the line. The Dodgers are hoping to clinch their 20th World Series appearance in franchise history, but the Brewers are more than willing to put up a fight and earn a return to the championship series for the first time since 1982.The series between the pair of division winners will be tight across the board, as both sides possess powerful lineups and impressive pitching staffs, but there will be a few players who shine the brightest and emerge as difference-makers over seven games.NLCS ScheduleAll times ET.Game 1:Friday, October 12 at Milwaukee (8:09 p.m., FS1)Game 2:Saturday, October 13 at Milwaukee (4:09 p.m., Fox)Game 3:Monday, October 15 at Los Angeles (7:39 p.m., FS1)Game 4:Tuesday, October 16 at Los Angeles (9:09 p.m., FS1)Game 5:Wednesday, October 17 at Los Angeles (5:05 p.m., FS1)*Game 6:Friday, October 19 at Milwaukee (8:39 p.m., FS1)*Game 7:Saturday, October 20 at Milwaukee (9:09 p.m., FS1)**-if necessary Odds (via OddsShark)Game 1:Los Angeles (-140; bet $140 to win $100); Milwaukee (+130; bet $100 to win $140)Ticket InfoAll available tickets for each game of the NLCS can be found on StubHub.PredictionsMoustakas Turns into Milwaukee's Most Important PlayerMike Moustakas is one of the few players on the Milwaukee roster with World Series experience. In the 2015 World Series, Moustakas hit .304 for the Kansas City Royals after driving in five runs during the ALCS.Moustakas was one of the Brewers' top hitters in the NLDS, and he'll extend that hot streak at the plate into the NLCS.Dylan Buell/Getty ImagesThe third baseman recorded four hits in 11 at-bats against the Colorado Rockies from a spot in the order beneath Christian Yelich and Ryan Braun, who are seen as the top threats in the lineup. With a handful of heavy hitters in front of him in the lineup Wily Peralta Jersey , Moustakas will have the opportunity to drive in runs and extend rallies against the Dodgers' pitching staff.Moustakas' form at the plate shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, as he was one of Milwaukee's most consistent players at the dish in September. The midseason acquisition had a hit in eight of the final 10 regular-season games and he produced 14 RBI in September.Buehler Emerges as X-Factor on Dodgers' StaffWalker Buehler might not get the ball until Game 3 if the Dodgers follow their rotation from the NLDS, but when he does, he'll turn the series in the Dodgers' favor.Clayton Kershaw is slated to start Game 1, and Hyun-Jin Ryu should be able to go for Game 2 on extended rest, which means Buehler would open up the team's NLCS home slate.Buehler was roughed up by the Atlanta Braves in Game 3 of the NLDS, as he gave up five earned runs over five innings.Harry How/Getty ImagesDespite the tough outing, Buehler still struck out seven batters, and the Dodgers hope his form from after the All-Star break carries over into the NLCS and erases the NLDS performance from his mind.In 14 regular-season starts since July, including the NL West tiebreaker against the Rockies, Buehler gave up five earned runs twice. In September, Buehler conceded seven earned runs over six starts, with his masterpiece coming in the September 19 win over the Rockies in which he fanned 12.Buehler's last four home starts have been outstanding, as he's let up a single earned run, which is why the Dodgers should start him in Game 3 to pull back any lost momentum from the opening games in Milwaukee. The 24-year-old's performance in Game 3 will warrant another start, or an extended appearance in relief, as the Dodgers attempt to keep the Brewers off balance at the plate.Follow Joe on Twitter, JTansey90.Statistics obtained from Baseball Reference. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota’s pitching staff has finally caught up in the strikeout era, with Jose Berrios leading the way.Berrios became the first Twins pitcher in eight years to reach 200 strikeouts, throwing seven smooth innings in a 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox in the first game of a doubleheader before Mitch Garver’s career-high six RBIs fueled a 12-4 victory for the sweep on Friday night.Berrios finished his All-Star season with a career-best 3.84 ERA and 202 strikeouts. The last time a Twins pitcher topped that milestone was Francisco Liriano (201) in 2010, with Johan Santana (235) prior to that in 2007.“That was one of my goals before the season started http://www.royalsfanproshop.com/authentic-ryan-goins-jersey ,” Berrios said. “That’s when I wrote it down, and I accomplished it and I’m thankful to God for that.”Berrios (12-11) struck out nine batters , allowing just three hits and one run on Leury Garcia’s RBI single in the third. Berrios walked four, including Avisail Garcia to lead off the sixth, but he followed that by fanning Daniel Palka, Matt Davidson and Omar Narvarez in a 10-pitch span to finish the inning with his fastball buzzing.“Pretty special kid,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. “Nice mix of pitches. Breaking ball was diving, sinking. He’s got a quick arm. Just kept us off balance.”The Twins are 16th in the major leagues in strikeouts, after finishing next-to-last in 2017. From 2011 through 2015, they were last.Though Berrios had a 4.15 ERA and just a 3-4 record in 12 starts after the All-Star break, the right-hander took another step toward being the ace at the top of the rotation the Twins have lacked since Santana was traded 11 years ago.“I want to be one of the best pitchers in the league,” Berrios said. “I think I have the material to do that and to be the best pitcher on this team, so that Minnesota can construct around me and build a winning team.”Reynaldo Lopez (7-10) turned in another strong start in the opener for the White Sox, save for matching his season high with five walks over six innings. Tyler Austin’s RBI groundout in the first and Willians Astudillo’s sacrifice fly in the sixth were all the Twins needed to take a game that was originally scheduled for the mid-April weekend when they had three straight games postponed by a snowstorm.Joe Mauer, facing an offseason decision about whether or not to retire at age 35, went 2 for 4 in each game and is batting .362 (21 for 58) over his last 14 starts while reaching base at least once in each.Astudillo has 16 RBIs in his last 15 games for the Twins, who improved to 47-32 at home. They’re 28-12 since June 24, the fifth-best record in MLB in that span. The White Sox, who fell to 8-17 in September, would lose 100 games for the first time since 1970 if they don’t win Saturday or Sunday. They were 63-99 in 2013.NIGHT MOVESGarver went 4 for 5 with doubles to fuel Twins starter Chase DeJong (1-1) in his first major league victory with six strong innings, despite solo home runs by Jose Rondon and Kevan Smith. Robbie Grossman went 2 for 4 with three RBIs for the Twins.Lucas Giolito (10-13) gave up seven runs in 1 1/3 innings for the White Sox Alex Gordon Jersey , pushing his MLB-worst ERA to 6.13. Hector Santiago threw 97 pitches in relief, allowing seven hits, two walks and one hit batter in 4 2/3 innings.“This leaves a bad taste in my mouth,” Giolito said. “Definitely a lot to work on in the offseason.”WHIFFING WHITIESThe White Sox struck out 18 times during the doubleheader, raising their season total to an MLB-most 1,570. Lookahead lines from earlier this week (BovadaOfficial):Dodgers EVENRed Sox -130Boston has been met with little resistance on its way to the American League pennant. Under first-year manager Alex Cora, the Red Sox cruised to the AL East crown by going a franchise-record 108-54 during the regular season. They took out the archrival New York Yankees in four games in the ALDS, and after dropping the opening game of the ALCS, they ran off four straight wins against the Houston Astros in the ALCS.Powered by AL MVP candidates J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts, the Red Sox have had the top offense in both the regular season and the postseason. Not only that, but former AL Cy Young award winner David Price appears to have exorcized his postseason demons. After his teams were winless in his first 10 career postseason starts, Boston went 2-0 in the five-time All-Star's ALCS starts. That includes six innings of three-hit Delino DeShields Jersey , shutout baseball to close out the Astros in Game 5.If Price carries that momentum over, one of Boston's previous weaknesses could turn out to be a strength.Meanwhile, things weren't so easy for Los Angeles in the National League. The Dodgers (92-71) had to scratch and claw their way into the postseason, and they needed a 163rd game in order to win the NL West. They easily handled the Atlanta Braves in four games in the NLDS but were pushed to the limit by the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS.Ultimately, Los Angeles pulled out a 5-1 victory on the road at Miller Park to win its second consecutive NL pennant. The Dodgers are strong both on the mound and at the plate. Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler andHyun-Jin Ryu have come up with big starts throughout the playoffs. Panthers 2018 season opener countdown: 11 days to go There are just 11 days until the Panthers kick off the 2018 regular season. Today’s player is wide receiver Torrey Smith.Torrey Smith Blue Kawann Short Jersey , Wide receiverBioHeight: 6’0”Weight: 205 lbsAge: 29College: MarylandNFL Experience: 8 yearsSmith came to Carolina in a trade that sent cornerback Darryl Worley to the Eagles. Since his arrival, Smith has made an impression for two different reasons: making plays in practice and being out spoken on issues about which he is passionate. He was acquired by the Panthers for much the same reasons as new teammate Jarius Wright. Since then, he has stepped up in training camp and earned the No. 2 receiver spot. Both Smith and Wright provide a boost of speed and a solid veteran presence in the wide receiver’s room. Smith had a bit of a down year last year, numbers wise, with an Eagles offense that was happy to spread the ball around, but don’t let that fool you. He is only 29 and not too far removed from his days as a top wide out in Baltimore. There is no guarantee that he will hold on to the starting job opposite Devin Funchess for the whole season, but he has shown the skill for it in the past and — for now — it is his job to lose.Off the field is a much easier story to tell Blue Cam Newton Jersey , if new owner David Tepper doesn’t batten down the hatches on his team’s public communications the way his predecessor did. Smith is trying to move the player’s movements for social justice from protests on the field towards actions in the community through his work with the Player’s Coalition. He has also taken the time to explain the simple difference between protesting during the national anthem and protesting the national anthem. A clear and passionate voice speaking to common issues is exactly what sports should elevate. Torrey Smith is that. I, for one, am hoping that he plays well enough this year on the football field to merit keeping his voice in the Carolinas for years to come. The Carolina Panthers have added safety Dezmen Southward to their practice squad to replace Josh Hawkins, who was activated to the 53-man roster last week when Da’Norris Searcy was placed on injured reserve.Southward has been with the Panthers on and off again since 2016. He was active for one game in 2017 and spent the rest of his time on the practice squad. The Panthers only have three active safeties on the 53-man roster (Mike Adams, Colin Jones, Rashaan Gaulden), so there’s a chance that Southward will be activated after the bye week just to give the Panthers more depth at the position. While I know that bringing in Southward is a good idea to add bodies to the room Cam Newton Jersey 2019 , there’s another way the Panthers could add not only depth, but quality at the safety position—sign Eric Reid. He’s available, he’s talented, he’s young and he fills a need. There’s no good reason to let a perfectly good solution to one of the defense’s biggest problems go to waste. Bring him in Marty, even if it’s only a one-year deal, and fix the lack of safety depth before it becomes a real issue.
