Columbus, which announced that forward Artem Anisimov will miss 2-to-3 months because of a torn triceps earlier in the day, had its recent luck reverse at 9:55 of the third period. With the score tied at 1-1, Jenner guided the puck, which took an odd bounce off the boards, into the slot. Rychhel gathered it and sent a shot on net. Cheap NFL Jerseys China. The shot was stopped, but Jenner was there to backhand it home. The Panthers pulled Montoya with under a minute to play, but were unable to force overtime. Michael Chaput tracked down the puck behind the net and dished a pass in the slot to Calvert, who dragged the puck from his forehand to his backhand and deposited the puck into a wide-open net to open the scoring with 4:53 left in the first. Ekblad tied it with his third of the season 1:23 into the second, as he rifled a point blast past a screened Bobrovsky and into the back of the net. BOSTON -- No need for instant replay. Cheap Adidas Superstar . The umpires overturned this blown call on their own. After Dustin Pedroia was called out on a phantom force play in the first inning of the World Series opener, second base umpire Dana DeMuth was reversed by the other five members of his crew. Three pitches later, Mike Napoli lined a cutter to the gap in left-centre field for a go-ahead three-run double, and the Boston Red Sox coasted to an 8-1 rout over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night. Nine years after they reversed the Curse, the Red Sox succeeded in reversing a key Series call. "You rarely see that," Napoli said before adding, "especially on a stage like this." Jacoby Ellsbury had walked leading off the first, and Pedroia had singled with one out. David Ortiz followed with a slow bouncer to second baseman Matt Carpenter that had an outside chance of being turned into an inning-ending double play. Carpenter made a routine 30-foot backhand flip to Pete Kozma in plenty of time for the out. But as the shortstop approached second base, the ball bounced off the edge of his gloves webbing and fell to the ground. DeMuth called Pedroia out on a force, indicating the ball was dropped by Kozma while making the transfer to his throwing hand. "It was just one of those plays. He gave me a good feed and I just missed it," Kozma said. Red Sox manager John Farrell jogged out from the dugout out to argue. "I think were fully accepting of the neighbourhood play, but my view is that it wasnt even that," he said. "There was really no entry into the glove with the ball." All six umpires huddled near shortstop for 30 seconds to discuss the play as Farrell looked on from the infield grass. "Typically theyre probably going to stand pat with the decision thats made in the moment," Farrell said. Kozma believed he established sufficient possession. "I had enough," he said. And then crew chief John Hirschbeck then walked toward the Cardinals dugout on the third-base side, motioning with his left hand for Cardinals manager Mike Matheny to come out. He told him that Pedroia was being called safe, and Matheny spent 1 1/2 minutes arguing to no avail, repeatedly jabbing his right index finger in the air. "Thats not a play Ive ever seen before," Matheny said. "And Im pretty sure there were six umpires on the field that had never seen that play before either. Its a pretty tough time to debut that overruled call in the World Series. Now, I get that trying to get the right call. I get that. Tough one to swallow." DeMuth admitted he got it wrong. "I stayed with the foot too long. Thats how I ended up getting in trouble," he said. "And when I was coming up, all I could see was a hand coming out and the ball on the ground. All right? So I was assuming." When he saw his crewmates converging on him, DeMuth knew he had made a mistake. "Its an awful feeling, yeah. Especially when Im sure I have the right call," he said. Hirschbeck said in the end it wasnt a difficult decision for the crew. "When I hear all five of us say we are 100 per cent, then I say, OK, we need to change this. Its as simple as that," he said. Major League Baseball started using video review to assist umpires in 2008, but only to decide whether potential home runs went over fences or were fair balls. Under rules changes likely to be approved for next season, video will be used for virtually every call other than balls and strikes. Managers would be allowed one challenge over the first six innings and two from the seventh inning on. Officials in New York City would make the final ruling. Speaking softly in a corner of the cramped visitors clubhouse, Kozma seemed like a player who felt he had let his team down. "You saw what happened the rest of the night," he said. "If I catch that ball and turn that double play, it stays nothing-nothing." Adidas Superstar Wholesale Uk . Wiggins, who had been seen as a contender for a podium finish in Paris, was one of about 20 riders caught near the back of the peloton with 38 kilometres to go in the 218-km flat stage from Le Mans to Chateauroux. http://www.cheapsuperstaruk.com/ . The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the confidential nature of the search, confirmed reports by several media outlets. The interview took place in Southern California on Monday.Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - There are not many matchups in which the betting line is affected by a single game, but that is what has taken place in the Outback Bowl between Wisconsin and Auburn. Wisconsin met Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game on Dec. 6 and the Badgers were favored by four points due to Cardale Jones starting at quarterback for the Buckeyes in place of the injured J.T. Barrett. The Badgers came into the contest on a seven-game winning streak, but the Buckeyes dominated from start to finish in a 59-0 rout. Now, instead of getting around a field goal from Auburn, the Badgers are underdogs by a touchdown. Another reason the line is higher than it should be comes from what has taken place on the sidelines as Wisconsin is without head coach Gary Andersen, who moved on to Oregon State. Barry Alvarez will be the interim coach for the second time in three years. However, Auburn has coaching issues as well due to the firing of defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson. Charlie Harbison takes over on an interim basis for Will Muschamp, who cant be added to the coaching staff for this contest. Wisconsin is somewhat used to playing teams from the SEC as the Badgers have done so twice in the last 365 days. In the first game of this season, they held a 24-7 lead over LSU early in the third quarter only to lose 28-24 with Tanner McEvoy throwing an interception leading to the winning score. The previous game was in last years bowl game against South Carolina. Wisconsin, trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter, had plenty of chances to cut the deficit to three, but three turnovers, including two inside the red zone, thwarted all attempts. Outside of that contest, the Badgers have lost by more than a touchdown against non-conference opponents just one time in over 10 years. Auburn is 0-3 ATS in its last three FBS games and just 2-7 ATS in its last nine contests. The Tigers are 0-3 ATS when favored between six and eight points against a non-conference Power 5 squad. Furthermore, they have not won an FBS game by more than seven since Oct. 4. Gus Malzahns crew should put up points against Wisconsins defense, but not having Dhaquille Williams in the lineup will hurt as the junior led the Tigers in receptions. Williams caught seven passes for 121 yards in Auburns last game against Alabama. Wisconsin also will score against a suspect Auburn defense, one which allowed just as many points in its last game as the Badgers did. In fact, the Tigers have given up 30 points or more in six consecutive FBS games. Expect a close contest in the Outback Bowl as Auburn should be favored by less than a field goal. Take Wisconsin plus seven points in this weeks lone five-star play. ANOTHER BIG TEN TEAM TO COVER ON NEW YEARS DAY Missouri takes on Minnesota in another SEC-Big Ten battle. The Tigers are similar to Wisconsin in that they came into their conference title game on a huge winning streak but were obliterated by their opponent. Still, even though Missouri had won six straight before losing to Alabama, most of the victories were not that impressive. The Tigers began the streak with what looked on paper as a huge win over Florida. The final score was 42-13, but they gained only 119 total yards in the win and Maty Mauk threw for just 20 yards on 6-for-18 passing with one interception. That was followed by five wins over five of the six teams with losing conference records. They recorded 10-point home wins over 0-8 Vanderbilt and 2-6 Kentucky. The next three games were seven-, eight- and seven-point victories over Texas A&M, Tennessee and Arkansas, respectively. Meanwhile, Minnesota played just one poor game since beating San Jose State, 24--7, on Sept. Discount Adidas Superstar. 20, and that was a four-point loss at Illinois a month later. Not only did the Golden Gophers give Ohio State and Wisconsin tough battles, but they knocked off Nebraska on the road and crushed Iowa by 37 points at home. The Golden Gophers already have matched up against quality defenses, so taking on Missouris unit will not be a major deterrent. Furthermore, their run-based offense should neutralize the Tigers fearsome defense, which accumulated 42 sacks. Minnesota has been an excellent team to wager on as an underdog. In fact, Jerry Kills squad is 10-1 ATS in its last 11 games when getting points. The Golden Gophers are getting 4.5 points on New Years Daym so grab them even though an outright victory is not out of the question. Take Minnesota plus 4.5 points in the first of three three-star plays. Oregon and Florida State clash in the first-ever College Football Playoff game. The Ducks have scored 193 points over their last four games and Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota has been on fire with 12 touchdown passes and no interceptions since Nov. 8. Oregons defense also has put it together, allowing just 17 points per game over its last five contests after giving up 28 points per game in its first seven FBS matchups. The Ducks need their defense to stay on course against an explosive Florida State offense, including the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner, Jameis Winston. The sophomore has had an off season, but hes still thrown for 3,559 yards - ninth-best in the FBS. The key to this matchup is not at quarterback or even at running back, where both teams possess tremendous freshmen (Royce Freeman at Oregon and Dalvin Cook at Florida State). The game will be won by the team with the better defense. It is difficult to judge which team that is, especially because Oregon plays in a more offensive-minded conference which skews the numbers in Florida States favor. To wit, the Seminoles have allowed fewer yards, fewer yards per play and fewer yards per carry. However, Oregon has given up fewer yards per pass attempt and, surprisingly, the Ducks have allowed fewer points even with seven of their 13 games against top-50 offenses. Florida State played just three contests against top-50 offenses. Unfortunately for Oregon, its star cornerback, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, is out with a knee injury, which is a crucial blow to the secondary. This should be a very close game, so it is best to go with the underdog. Take Florida State plus nine points. Finally, Washington and Oklahoma State get together in the Cactus Bowl on Jan. 2. The Huskies usually are a tremendous home team with a shaky record on the road. They went 16-3 at home and 5-11 on the road between 2011 and 2013. However, they proved they can win away from home this season, going 4-2 with the only two losses coming against Oregon and Arizona. Running back Dwayne Washington came alive in Washingtons last three games rushing for 383 yards (on just 49 carries) and five touchdowns. Given the fact Oklahoma State allows over four yards per carry, look for Washington to have a field day. The Cowboys also rank 110th nationally versus the pass, which means the Huskies could easily score well into the 40s. It is doubtful the Cowboys will even reach 30 points given they have done so just once in their last seven games. This one should be a double-digit deficit for Oklahoma State, and since the Huskies are giving less than a touchdown, they are the choice in the Cactus Bowl. Take Washington minus six points. TWO-STAR SELECTIONS Take Michigan State +3 (Baylor) and Kansas State +1.5 (UCLA) in the Alamo Bowl. ONE-STAR PLAY Take Boise State +3 (Arizona) in the Fiesta Bowl. ' ' '

PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida – Aaron Sanchez was so impressive on Friday afternoon against the Rays big league line-up, he had Tampa Bays hitters giving him props to catcher Dioner Navarro. Cheap Under Armour Uk . "Theyve never seen him," said Navarro. "Theyve never faced him and they get this young, lanky, tall guy whos throwing cheese and hes got pretty good movement. I think his composure on the mound was pretty good, his demeanour was pretty good, his body language, everything around him was pretty good today." Sanchez played the role of top prospect, shutting out the Rays over five-and-a-third innings in Torontos 5-0 win. He allowed three hits, all singles, and walked three, but helped his cause be forcing three double-play balls. One each came off the bats of Evan Longoria and Wil Myers. Sanchez struck out two, his fastball was clocked consistently in the mid-90s and his patented curveball was sharp. "It was extremely impressive, theres no doubt about it," said pitching coach Pete Walker. "He came out throwing strikes. He was composed. Faced their line-up, Im sure close to their opening day line-up, faced all their big hitters and certainly handled them pretty well. Pounded the zone, got ahead of the hitters, didnt work from behind in the count, showed an explosive fastball and, like I said, a lot of poise and a lot of ground-ball outs." Watching Sanchez pitch on Saturday, its easy to fall in love with his stuff, his composure, and easy to forget about where he is in his career. The Blue Jays have taken great care, some would say too much care, since drafting him 34th-overall in 2010. Hes only 21, turns 22 on Canada Day, and hasnt thrown a pitch in pro ball above High-A Dunedin. Sanchez hasnt exceeded 100 innings in three pro seasons, although factoring in Arizona Fall League appearances, combined with his time in Dunedin, he tossed 109 2/3 last year. If the Blue Jays increase his innings load by 20 per cent this year, hed throw approximately 130. A 30 per cent increase and Sanchez would throw about 140 innings. He authored a 3.34 ERA in 22 appearances, 20 starts, for Dunedin in 2013. His strikeouts per nine innings dropped to 7.8, but that was by design. Hes worked to become a better ground ball pitcher, which was evidenced by the double play turns in Fridays game. Its tempting for a coaching staff that can see the future but knows another failed season likely means it wont be a part of it; a coaching staff which knows theres at least one glaring hole in the current composition of its starting rotation. "I guess it would be hard not to just from watching and laying eyes on him," said Walker of whether he thinks about Sanchez breaking camp. "But obviously we want to make sure hes ready when the time comes." Hes an affable young man, but also smart. Sanchez doesnt make much noise around the clubhouse; he knows his role as a young player. Hes the Blue Jays top pitching prospect but restricts the projection of swagger and confidence to his mound appearances. "Its good to get my feet wet," said Sanchez of his first big league camp. "Coming into camp, for me, it was to soak everything all in, learn from the veteran guys, just go out and have fun." "I think some of the intangible things that you try to look for in young players in an atmosphere that can be uncomfortable at times, you know, is he so reserved? Is he getting involved in the drills and some of the meetings? Hes handled himself very well and that says a lot about his character and who he is," said bench coach DeMarlo Hale, who served as manager on Friday. It remains to be seen whether Sanchez will throw again for the Blue Jays in spring training. Walker will sit down with manager John Gibbons and draw up a schedule. Sanchez likely starts his season at Double-A New Hampshire. A good showing there and its next stop, Buffalo. Or, maybe, Toronto. THE PIGGYBACK Theres been open musing in the press box about the idea of Dustin McGowan joining R.A. Dickey, Brandon Morrow, Mark Buehrle and Drew Hutchison in the starting rotation. Why not cap McGowan at four or five innings as he builds up arm strength and piggyback him with one of two long relievers, either Esmil Rogers or Todd Redmond? "Still trying to sort through it," said pitching coach Pete Walker when presented with the idea. "Obviously, theres still some time left in spring training. Guys are going to get the ball; get their opportunities to stand out right now. Obviously, Dustin looked great yesterday and Sanchez looked great today and the other guys, Redmond and Rogers, have thrown the ball well. Obviously, wed like to see [J.A.] Happ pitch well on the 25th and well continue to take a look at how it works out." Walker didnt have the opportunity to speak to McGowan before leaving for Port Charlotte, but said reports are the 31-year-old "felt fine" after throwing three scoreless innings against the Phillies on Thursday. TUIASOSOPOS NUMBERS General manager Alex Anthopoulos ist shy about scouring the waiver wire for players. On Thursday, he picked up Matt Tuiasosopo from the Diamondbacks. "Played well for the Tigers last year and we had good reports on him," said Anthopoulos in a statement. "He gives us a right-handed bat that gives us positional versatility. Obviously, there isnt a lot of time left but hell come in and compete for a spot." Time is of the essence and Tuiasosopo is going to need more of it than usual to join the ballclub. He was in Australia, where the Diamondbacks are opening their regular season with two games against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Its difficult to see, on the surface, where Tuiasosopo fits in. Hes a right-handed bat who got off to a strong start with the Tigers last season, hitting six of his seven home runs before the All-Star break, including four in a personal five-game span between June 18 and July 11. He can play the corner outfield positions, first base and third base in a pinch. "Youre talking about, maybe, from the right side where there could be an option there," said bench coach DeMarlo Hale. Tuiasosopo hasnt proven he can hit left-handers at the big league level. In 194 at-bats against lefties, Tuiasosopo has hit .196/.287/.345 with eight home runs. Against right-handers, his slash line is .221/.287/.368. Over his major league career, Tuiasosopo has struck out in 31.7 per cent of his big league at-bats. By comparison, while acknowledging the sample size is small, Moises Sierra hits left-handers at a .267/.327/.478 clip with four home runs. "Decisions havent been made, Im sure of that," said Hale. "I cant speak for Alex and Gibby, but it becomes added depth and well see what hes got over these next four or five days left of spring training.” Like Sierra, Tuiasosopo is out of options, meaning he would first have to pass through waivers before being assigned to the minor leagues. If the Blue Jays go with an eight-man bullpen to start the season, carrying both is out of the question. The back-up catcher, likely Erik Kratz, and Maicer Izturis must be accounted for, which leaves only one additional roster spot. Under Armour Wholesale Uk .Y. - Lou Williams scored 21 points and the Toronto Raptors beat New York 81-76 on Monday night in the Knicks preseason home opener. Under Armour Sale Clearance .J. - Pete Carroll is in support of the NFL looking further into whether medicinal marijuana could beneficial for players. http://www.cheapunderarmouruk.com/ . Dwyane Wade followed a few days later.DENVER -- LaTroy Hawkins is returning to the Colorado Rockies and the veteran reliever may just possibly wind up as their closer. Hawkins agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million deal on Tuesday, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal has yet to be announced and is still pending a physical. The right-hander played an integral role in the bullpen for Colorado in 2007, when the Rockies made their only run to the World Series before being swept by the Boston Red Sox. Hawkins, who turns 41 in December, will be in contention for the closer role with left-hander Rex Brothers, who stepped in last season after Rafael Betancourt got hurt and finished with 19 saves. The Rockies also like the hard-throwing Brothers as a set-up man in the eighth inning. Hawkins spent last season with the New York Mets, going 3-2 with a 2.93 ERA and 13 saves in 70 2-3 innings. The Mets tried to keep him and made an offer. "Were happy for him. He did a great job for us last year," Mets GM Sandy Alderson said. "Was a terrific part of the team, in the clubhhouse, as well as his role on the field. Under Armour Outlet Uk. We wish him well. "Hes 41 years old. We werent necessarily counting on him to fill the same role for us next year. We certainly would have liked to have him in the pen, but going into the spring, I think that, again, given kind of the vagaries of relief pitching anyway and his age and what we had coming, it wasnt clear what his role would be." USA Today first reported the agreement. On his Twitter account Tuesday, Hawkins posted a thank you to the Mets organization and fans. He closed his tweet with, "Now off to BowHunting." Earlier this month, the Rockies took a big step toward keeping their bullpen intact as right-handed reliever Matt Belisle and the team exercised their mutual option for 2014. The bullpen had a 4.23 ERA in 2012. Colorado also exercised the club option on left-handed pitcher Jorge De La Rosa, who was solid on the mound last season as he finished 16-6 with a 3.49 ERA. De La Rosa is scheduled to make $11 million next year. The Rockies are coming off a season in which they finished last in the NL West with a 74-88 record. ' ' '

NHL and NHLPA executives are expected to announce on Friday the details of the rekindled World Cup of Hockey, a tournament that will feature eight teams, including two unconventional ones. Nike Vapormax Wholesale . Besides Canada, the U.S., Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Finland, the league and union will announce a European All-Star team will participate. That team will be stocked with players who come from countries other than those participating as nations. Also, the tournament will feature a team with North American players under the age of 23. An executive with an NHL sponsor confirmed the details to TSN. The tournament will also feature a best-of-three final, which will help to drive up the broadcast and sponsor rights for the tournament both in North America and Europe. The National Hockey League and its players association have told team executives they hope to generate between $75 million and $100 million from the rekindled World Cup of Hockey. A person familiar with the matter told TSN that the tournament, which is scheduled to be held in September 2016, will raise about half its revenue from the sale of broadcast and internet streaming rights. The NHL and NHLPA have predicted those rights may garner close to $50 million. Its a gamble to spend so much on a tournament like the World Cup when theres no guarantee Team Canada will advance beyond the round robin portion. But if it does, there could be a big payoff in TV ratings. The final of the World Cup will be a best-of-three format, TSN has learned. Besides TV rights, the NHL and NHLPA will also sell sponsorship rights to the World Cup. They anticipate selling to eight premier corporate sponsors and negotiating deals of at least $1.5 million in each category, a source told TSN. The NHL and NHLPA will also garner revenue from ticket and merchandise sales. However, its expected that the NHL and the Players Association will have to pay Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment at least $5 million for hosting the three-week tournament. While executives with the Montreal Canadiens wanted to host some of the World Cup games at the Bell Centre, the NHL and its players union decided to host all of the games in Toronto. That way, if the tournament is a success, they could auction off the rights to host the games in 2019, perhaps, to the city that offers the best revenue guarantee - be it Montreal, New York, Stockholm, Moscow, or another city. To be sure, there are still many unanswered questions about how much profit the NHL and players union will generate from the World Cup. They need to pay for insurance for all of the players. Typically, the NHL and the Players Association buy premiums that offer better coverage than simply career-ending policies. Payouts are rare, but they do happen. The Islanders John Tavares, for instance, was covered by an insurance policy when he was injured during the Winter Olympics earlier this year in Sochi, Russia. The Islanders were compensated by an insurance company for the time he missed. Its unclear how much insurance will cost the NHL and NHLPA. Then Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson said last August that it would cost at least $1 million simply to pay for insurance for the 47 Canadian players invited to Team Canada workouts in advance of the Winter Olympics. NHL player agent Allan Walsh said some NHL players have been skeptical over whether its a good idea to steer away from the national team concept. Some players believe this should be limited to players playing for their country, Walsh told TSN. What are you playing for if its Team Young Guns or European All Stars? What are you playing for? Thats a problem. Its an issue. Walsh said featuring a young guns team particularly could lead to lopsided scores. The downside is that team gets pounded, Walsh said. I dont think it would have an impact on the players psychology or career - just an impact on the legitimacy of the team in the tournament, when people sit back and say whether this kind of team was a good or bad idea. Still, Walsh and other agents said there could be a great payoff for the league from marketing a team built around young stars like Nathan McKinnon, Connor McDavid and Jonathan Drouin. Walsh said that while some fans have called for the NHL and NHLPA to include teams from Slovakia or Slovenia, that might not be practical, since the tournament is run by the league and its players association - both of which want to use the event to build the profile of their own players, not those playing in leagues overseas. SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Former Brazil and Barcelona star Rivaldo officially retired on Saturday after a 24-year career that he said was built "upon a miracle" that allowed him to overcome financial challenges and disappointments. Ecco Shoes Uk Outlet . The 41-year-old midfielder, a World Cup winner with Brazil in 2002, hadnt been playing at a top level for several years and finally decided to end his career with an announcement on his Twitter and Instagram accounts. FIFAs player of the year in 1999, Rivaldo had been playing sparingly for minnow Brazilian club Mogi Mirim. He is expected to remain as the president of Mogi Mirim, where his 18-year-old son is now playing. "With tears in my eyes today I would like first to thank God, my family and all the support (and) the affection that I received during those 24 years as a player," Rivaldo said in a statement published both in Portuguese and in English. "Today, I communicate to all my fans in the world (that) my history as a player came to the end." The talented playmaker thrived in Brazil and abroad in the 1990s, winning two Spanish league titles with Barcelona and the 2003 Champions League trophy with AC Milan, which was his last top European club, before spending time in Greece and finally returning to Brazilian football four years ago. The last top team he played in Brazil was Sao Paulo in 2011, but he was released after an unsuccessful stint in which he played only a few matches as a starter. Before rejoining Mogi Mirim, the team that launched him to the national scene in 1994, Rivaldo played for Kabuscorp in Angola and then for Sao Caetano in Brazil, which he left last year citing knee pain. In his statement, Rivaldo mentioned the hardships that he had to overcome early in his career. He said there were "many obstacles, challenges, waivers, longings, disappointments," but also "much greater joys, achievements, growth (and) change" that allowed a "distant dream" to come true. "I built my career upon a miracle, (living) in (the small city of) Paulista, no financial resources, no businessman, incentives only of my family, discredited by doctors and trainers," he said. "With persistence, dedication and especially with the hand of God, I came to be recognized as the best player in the world, world champion." Along with his statement, Rivaldo published a photo of him with tears in his eyes and another of him alongside his son, Rivaldo Jr. Last month, they got to play together in a Mogi Mirim match and Rivaldo said he fulfilled a longtime dream. Rivaldo also played in the 1998 World Cup, when Brazil was runner-up to France. With the Selecao, he also won the 1997 Confederations Cup, the 1999 Copa America and a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Rivaldo also previously played for traditional Brazilian clubs Palmeiras and Corinthians, as well as for Deportivo La Coruna in Spain, Olympiacos and AEK Athens in Greece, and Bunyodkor in Uzbekistan. ARLINGTON, Texas -- Yu Darvish brought the heat to win for the first time in eight starts and the Texas Rangers squeezed out a series-clinching victory. Relying heavily on his fastball, primarily a four-seamer, Darvish struck out eight in 6 2-3 scoreless innings and the Rangers scored twice on a squeeze bunt in a 3-2 victory over Mat Latos and the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. "His performance was good. He was going against another good one, and they matched zeroes," manager Ron Washington said. "Once we put the runs on the board, Darvish did what we needed him to do. Looked like the same Darvish to me." The Rangers finally scored against Latos (7-2) in the fifth when Elvis Andrus bunted. Latos made a barehanded grab and scoop in one motion. The toss home hit the earflap of Engel Beltre, who was still on the ground when Leonys Martin also scored for a 2-0 lead. "It was just a reaction. He bunted it pretty hard. I felt I could make a play," Latos said. " As I look back, I should have held on to the ball." Darvish (8-3) won for the first time since May 16, ending his longest professional winless drought -- in his two years with the Rangers or seven in Japan before that. The right-hander was 0-2 with a 2.93 ERA in those seven games, when Texas scored only 12 runs while he was on the mound. "As a starter, if the team doesnt win the day that you pitch, that can be really frustrated, so that was my thing," Darvish said through his translator, though he insisted later he wasnt overwhelmed by the winless streak. "I was thinking how I could live day by day, and nothing really special." The AL West-leading Rangers have won 10 of 13 games since a six-game losing streak. Cincinnati has lost seven of nine. Darvish threw 77 of 117 pitches for strikes on a sunny afternoon when the game-time temperature was 90 degrees-- 10 degrees cooler than at the start of Friday nights series opener. While increasing his majors-best strikeout total to 151, he walked four and scattered four hits with only one 1-2-3 inning. There was an 11-pitch at-bat in the first inning against Brandon Phillips, who didnt get a breaking ball while at the plate. The first ball didnt come until the ninth pitch, and he eventually struck out to end the inning. That set a tone for what Darvish was trying to do. "I just wanted to shut all the people up that were talking about my fastballs," Darvish said. "I love when he throws more fastballs," shortstoop Andrus said. Ecco Shoes Wholesale. "I think that he gets a little tougher. Thats when his slider works way better too. He did a great job of keeping us in the game. ... When youve got your ace out there, you always want to win and score some runs early so he can feel better." Joe Nathan, the fifth Texas reliever, pitched a perfect ninth for his 27th save in 28 chances. Latos, 21-6 in his 50 career starts for the Reds, struck out nine and walked two in 6 2-3 innings. He gave up three runs, two of them earned. Beltre led off the fifth by dragging a bunt past the mound for a hit before Martins hustling double. Martin extended his hitting streak to 14 games, matching the longest by a Rangers player this season, on the hit to right-centre when he slid inside of second base and reached back to grab it while avoiding the tag. When sliding into home, Beltre couldnt steer clear of the ball that ricocheted off his head, nor could he avoid the hard collision with catcher Devin Mesoraco trying to block the plate. "I figured Andrus would be aggressive so I called for a first-pitch slider. To his credit, he got the bunt down," Mesoraco said. "With the speed they had on the bases, it didnt have to be a perfect bunt." Martin scored and Andrus wound up at second before trainer Jamie Reed and Washington were able to check on Beltre, who got up and walked back to the dugout a couple of minutes later and stayed in the game. Martin led off the seventh with a single, stole second and scored on a bloop single by Nelson Cruz. Robbie Ross got the last out of the seventh after taking over for Darvish. Tanner Scheppers made his team-high 39th appearance, after three days off, and threw only two of his nine pitches for strikes. Scheppers walked Zack Cozart on four pitches in the eighth and gave up consecutive singles to Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips before going to a 2-0 count against Jay Bruce -- and being relieved by Neal Cotts. Jay Bruce and pinch-hitter Chris Heisey had consecutive sacrifice flies. NOTES: The Rangers are off Monday, their only off day this season that will come in the middle of a homestand. ... Texas finished June at 14-14. ... Cincinnati has played twice at Rangers Ballpark. The Reds also lost two of three games in 2002. ... TORONTO -- Dwane Casey has been carrying around a contract in his briefcase for the past few months, signed by all the Toronto Raptors and the teams staff. Nike Air Max 1 Australia . The contract, just two or three lines long and something that "wouldnt hold up in court," Casey said laughing, was a pledge of commitment. Its headline: "Im all in." Perhaps no one was more committed than Casey to the Raptors success this season, and on Tuesday, the 57-year-old coach was rewarded with a new three-year contract. The announcement came two days after Torontos season ended, but a couple of months after GM Masai Ujiri first approached the coach to get a new deal done. "Coach Casey was really classy because he said to me and he said to the players, Lets leave this and concentrate on the season, this is our chance to prove ourselves," Ujiri said, recounting his initial contract talks with Casey back in March. "He said, If Ive preached that to the players, then I owe it to them to continue this and well talk about (contract negotiations) after the season. I really give him credit for that." Casey led a young Raptors team to a remarkable and unexpected season that included a franchise-record 48 wins, an Atlantic Division title, and the No. 3 seed in the playoffs. Toronto pushed the vastly experienced Brooklyn Nets to seven games in the opening round of the playoffs, losing Game 7 by just a point. Casey said he drew up his "Im all in" pledge right after the February all-star break. In their next game, the Raptors recorded a big 103-93 win at Washington. "(It was about) committing to the process. Leaving their egos at the door," said Casey, who said he might have the contract framed. "Each player dedicated themselves, gave themselves to the season, and also as far as Im concerned to the future. Because this year was just a start of what we want to grow and develop with Masai as our leader and also the guys that are coming back here." Kyle Lowry was the first player to jump up and sign the pledge, said Casey. Retaining Lowry, the point guard whose teammates say was their heart and soul this season, will be one of the Raptors top priorities in the coming weeks -- the 28-year-old becomes a free agent on July 1. Lowry spoke glowingly in exit interviews a day earlier about his love for his teammates and the city, and Ujiri sounded, on Tuesday, as if the feeling was mutual. "Its very important (to re-sign Lowry) in terms of continuity," Ujiri said. "Kyle has had a phenomenal year. I thought Kyle was a huge, huge key to our season. For me, negotiating is easy if we want Kyle to be here and Kyle wants to be here. "Hes grown tremendously, to be coached and to work with," Ujiri continued. "His teammates, everybody has said that. Were proud of him. And so well go through that process, but were optimistic stuff will happen." Lowry and his teammates praised Casey in season-ending media interviews, noting the consistency of his message. For his part, Casey said he never considered testing the market. Ujiri made a commitment to the coach when the season began, and Casey said it was only fair he reciprocate. Caseys job status was uncertain when the season began. He was hired by Bryan Colangelo, and Ujiri had just replaced Colangelo as GM. "Masai could have made any decision when he first took over the job last spring." Casey said. "He was true to his word, he gave all of us a platform to go out and prove and show, even the players, what you can do. And he was true to his word. Thats all you can ask for in this business is an opportunity. "It would be so disingenuous to even go out and put your foot in the market and think that was a possibility, so I didnt even give it a second thought. My heart is here, my mind is here." The Raptors thrived after the seven-player deal last December that sent Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings. Casey, who is almost fatherly in the way he communicates with his team, worked four new players into the roster, and from that point forward Toronto had the best mark in the Eastern Conference at 41-22. Casey and Ujiri were proud of the teams performance in the playoffs. They squared off against a Nets team that was built for success right now, whereas the Raptors are very much a work in progress. Casey was named head coach in June 2011, shortly after he helped guide the Dallas Mavericks to an NBA title. When asked which season -- the championship in Dallas, or this Raptors campaign -- was more satisfying, he said this one. "Its far more gratifying watching kids grow, watching development ... watching guys go through Game 6, when our compete level in the first half was probably one of the lowest we had all year, and then turn it around and put ourselves in a position to win the game," Casey said. Casey said the biggest mistake the team can make now is be complacent, so improvement is the focus of the off-season. He pointed out how sophomore centre Jonas Valanciunas will work with NBA legend and former Raptor Hakeem Olajuwon over the summer. The coach said, for his part, hell do what he does every off-season and examine tape of every game, looking for what they did wrong, what they could have done better. Both Casey and Ujiri spoke again about the incredible fan support in Toronto, noting that support helps when theyre trying to sell the city to free agents. Casey called it easily the best in the NBA and compared it to the 1996 NBA finals. He was with the Seattle SuperSonics that year, bowing in the final series to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. "KeyArena was rocking, loud. The Finals in 96, I thought that was loud," Casey said. "That didnt compare to the Air Canada Centre on Sunday when Deron Williams was shooting his free throws (in the dying seconds). You could just hear it vibrating. The official had to lean over to me and whisper in my ear, which I felt kinda creepy ... but you couldnt hear yourself talk. Thats a home-court advantage, its second to none in the league." Ujiri mentioned his predecessor at the end of Tuesdays 45-minute news conference at Air Canada Centre. "I think Bryan Colangelo did an unbelievable job here," he said. "He hired Dwane Casey. The starting five were picked by Bryan Colangelo as young players. I think the guy did an unbelievable job. He was a boss here, my boss and a mentor. He needs to be given some credit." Casey was named NBA Eastern Conference coach of the month in December. The Raptors finished in the Top 10 in the NBA in defensive field goal percentage (.450) and points allowed (98.0), and also posted a franchise-best 22 road wins. Air Max 1 Sale Cheap . TORONTO – Dustin McGowan badly wants to succeed in whats likely his last chance to be a regular big league starting pitcher. Cheap Padres Jerseys Authentic . He badly wants to erase the doubts about the health of his three times surgically-repaired right shoulder. He wants, once and for all, to eliminate the too-good-to-be-true cloud that hovers over his unlikely story. After yet another all-too-brief outing, four innings plus three batters in Wednesday nights 10-8 loss to the Orioles, McGowan admitted that hes wearing out sooner than hed like. "Maybe a little bit," said McGowan when asked if he feels fatigued. "I do seem at 60 pitches, I kind of seem to be falling backwards a little bit, I guess you could say. But I feel good, my arm feels great, its just sometimes it seems like the ball is not coming out quite right after 60, 65 pitches." Theres some positive in there with that negative. His arm, he insists, is healthy. Hes pleased with how he feels when hes pitching. Hes encouraged with his bounce back in the days after an outing. The problem, it seems, relates to a lack of stamina. "The body just feels like it runs out of steam a little bit," said McGowan. "I shouldnt be feeling that, I should be at the point where I can go 90-100, especially the way my arm feels. It feels great." Pressed further, McGowan didnt deny hes had thoughts about giving up his starters spot and returning to the bullpen. "You think about that, but right now Im planning on being a starter and Ive got to get past that hurdle sometime," he said. His unlikely return to the rotation aside, its important to put McGowans issues in context. While hed openly mused about taking one more shot at being a starter as far back as last September, and general manager Alex Anthopoulos was supportive of McGowans winter efforts to stretch out, there wasnt a realistic expectation hed be leaving the bullpen. McGowan found a home there last season, posting a 2.45 ERA in 25 appearances and showing the stuff of a late-inning, high leverage, shut down reliever. Then this year, toward the end of spring training, the Blue Jays fell just short in the pursuit of free agent right-hander Ervin Santana. There was a spot to fill behind R.A. Dickey, Drew Hutchison, Mark Buehrle and Brandon Morrow. J.A. Happ dealt with back inflammation and pancaked with four awful Grapefruit League starts, resulting in a season-starting stint on the disabled list. Marcus Stroman was inconsistent and started the year with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. Aaron Sanchez, whose repertoire has Blue Jays personnel frothing, is working at Double-A New Hampshire and his innings are being monitored early in the season. Esmil Rogers and Todd Redmond are best suited for long relief, which left McGowan as the best option. This despite the fact he suffered through a bout with a nasty stomach virus in early March, which docked about a week off his spring training schedule and pushed back efforts to get him multiple-inning appearances. "It could be," said McGowan of whether his shorter than expected spring has caught up with him. "We sped it up a lot, usually you wouldnt increase that much that fast, but we had to and we did it. Ive just got to find a way. Theres a way, Ive just got to get it past that hurdle." Whats still unclear is how long the Blue Jays are willing to give him. Stroman is off to a fine start with the Bisons, posting a 2.18 ERA, 1.355 WHIP and 26 strikeouts against six walks in three starts. His time is coming. So is Sanchezs, eventually. Could it be sooner rather than later? A Relievers Approach The Blue Jays entered Wednesdays action a Top-10 team in relief innings pitched. Relievers have hurled 67 2/3 innings so far this season, getting on average about 10 outs per game. The bullpen is its own world, made up of pitchers who take different approaches to getting ready and staying fresh in case theyre called on to appear in games on consecutive days. Take Brett Cecil, a closer during his sophomore year at the University of Maryland in 2006. By the time he debuted in the big leagues in 2009, he was a starter. Cecil won a career-high 15 games in 2010, then had a mysterious drop in velocity on his fastball, struggled, and has since revived his career as a left-handed relief specialist. "Its just kind of an everyday thing about how I feel," said Cecil of a days preparation. "Whether Im off that day, whether Im going to throw that day; it just all depends on the night before, the two nights before, what Ive done. If I need to stretch, I stretch. If I need to lift, I go lift." Cecil is being careful early in the season after experiencing elbow pain late last year. He made a career-high 60 appearances before being shut down in mid-September. The games he could handle but as a former starter, Cecil was learning how to prepare for relief work. Hes got a better handle on the demands this season. "I wasnt sure how to police myself being a reliever so the days that I felt like throwing a flat ground, I would throw a flat ground," said Cecil. "Did I really need it? No." Cecil believes its easier on the arm to be a starter. You pitch every fifth day, working through a rest, treatment, throwing regimen in-between starts. In relief, you could pitch on back-to-back days and then sit for a number of games. There are periods of consistent work, every other day. Its unpredictable. If a reliever has a two-pitch outing, like Cecil did on Friday night in Cleveland, it counts as a days work so when he throws again on Saturday, as he did against the Indians, hes not available for Sunday. "Thats one of those things that people dont see," said Cecil. "We as bullpen guys dont get a chance to gradually warm up. Its, youve got to get on the mound and throw and youve got to get hot in a very short amount of time. It puts a lot of stress on the arm." Closer Sergio Santos didnt appear in Tuesday nights win over the Orioles but with the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth, he was warming up to pitch the ninth. Its not an appearance in Santos stats line but it is a day of work. "I had two days off plus an off day so it was technically three days off," said Santos. "It was fine for me to get off the mound and I threw maybe eight to 10 pitches. Just something to where I was sharp enough that if the inning were to end, Id be able to go out and do my job and if it didnt, then it was just a day of a little bit more than a flat ground." Santos is less concerned about a day like Tuesday in April but come July and August, the dog days of summer, relievers become more concerned with "saving their bullets." That is, throw when needed and to stay ready; just dont throw any more than whats required. Bullpen coach Bob Stanley charts pitches thrown and keeps track of each relievers throwing schedule. Guys have different warmup routines. Santos likes eight to 12 pitches off the mound before entering a game. Cecil likes 15 to 20, throwing the final five at maximum capacity. If hes rushed, hell factor in the eight pitches he gets on the game mound. "Some guys warm up with an intensity that matches almost the game and can be harder," said Santos. "Some guys take it a little lighter when theyre warming up." Cheap Trevor Hoffman Jersey . Should Chris Smalling have been sent off? Was Ruben Loftus-Cheek inside or outside the box when fouled against West Ham? And was Neymar correctly awarded a penalty against Villarreal? In his weekly Ref Watch feature, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher appeared on Sky Sports Now to analyse the weekends big issues. Was your team affected by a contentious decision? Read on to find out... MATCH: Manchester City 0-1 Manchester United, SundayINCIDENT: In the penalty box, Martin Demichelis appears to barge into Marcus Rashford, knocking him off balance, but no penalty is given.GALLAGHERS VERDICT: Penalty Jamie Carragher said Manchester United were denied a blatant penalty GALLAGHERS VIEW: All I can think is Michael (Oliver, the referee) thinks Demichelis shoulder-barges him when you see he hasnt. Hes caught him in the midriff. Its just a decision hes got wrong, and knowing Michael as I do, hell be upset about that. Its just an error.MATCH: Manchester City 0-1 Manchester United, SundayINCIDENT: Already on a booking, Chris Smalling clips the back of Sergio Agueros foot and concedes a foul, but referee Oliver does not send him off.GALLAGHERS VERDICT: No red card Chris Smalling appeared to go through the back of Aguero GALLAGHERS VIEW: What you have to remember is it took him three fouls to get him a first yellow card, it doesnt necessarily have to take another three to get him to a red card. But it doesnt automatically mean his next foul is going to be a red card. That wasnt enough for a yellow card and therefore I think it was right just to speak to him.MATCH: Crystal Palace 0-1 Leicester, SaturdayINCIDENT: A Leicester corner is taken and Scott Dann pulls Robert Huths shirt off in the penalty box among the pushing. The referee gives nothing.GALLAGHERS VERDICT: No penalty Robert Huths shirt was pulled off by Scott Dann GALLAGHERS VIEW: The referee is too distant from the incident when you see it. The referee has got so much to watch, hes looking through so many players he cant see that, and when Huth gets up it turns into comedy value. MATCH: Chelsea 2-2 West Ham, SaturdayINCIDENT: Chelsea are awarded a penalty for a foul by Michail Antonio on Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but there are questions over whether Loftus-Cheek was in or outside the box when Antonio tripped him up.GALLAGHERS VERDICT: No penalty Ruben Loftus-Cheek looked to have been clipped by Michail Antonio outside the box GALLAGHERS VIEW: I think its a foul, at that point the referee doesnt know where it is, hes got to look to the assistant who makes that call looking across the line - is he in, is he out?If he (the assistant referee) has made that call hes made it incorrectly, because it was outside the penalty area.MATCH: Everton 0-2 Arsenal, SaturdayINCIDENT: Alexis Sanchez has the ball at this feet and appears to be tripped by Muhamed Besicc as he prepares to shoot. Cheap Ozzie Smith Jersey. He stays on his feet at first before going to ground, and referee Mark Clattenburg ignores the claims. GALLAGHERS VERDICT: Penalty Dermot Gallagher feels a penalty should have been given for Mo Besics trip on Alexis Sanchez GALLAGHERS VIEW: Its Besic who actually catches it and Mark doesnt see that. Because Mark sees Sanchez down, he doesnt give a foul against Ramiro Funes Mori as hes already going down. What he doesnt see is that contact from Besic because of Alex Iwobi.MATCH: Southampton 3-2 Liverpool, SundayINCIDENT: Shane Long drives into the box and is challenged from behind by Dejan Lovren. The forward goes to ground but the referee says no penalty.GALLAGHERS VERDICT: Penalty Southampton should have been awarded a penalty after Lovrens brings down Long, says Gallagher GALLAGHERS VIEW: Its a penalty because Long is in possession of the ball and its up to the defender not to make contact, but Long has initiated contact by going across him.MATCH: Southampton 3-2 Liverpool, SundayINCIDENT: The ball is played into the box for Graziano Pelle and Martin Skrtel is penalised for having a hold of his shirt. Referee Roger East gives a penalty.GALLAGHERS VERDICT: Penalty Liverpool conceded a penalty as Martin Skrtel pulled down Graziano Pelle in the box GALLAGHERS VIEW: Skrtel makes the initial contact, he grabs him. When we talk about shirt pulling, there has to be an initiator and I think Skrtel is the initiator.MATCH: Newcastle 1-1 Sunderland, SundayINCIDENT: DeAndre Yedlin commits a foul throw, conceding possession back to Newcastle which leads to an equaliser. But is it a foul throw?GALLAGHERS VERDICT: Foul throw DeAndre Yedlin appeared to commit a foul throw against Newcastle, which directly led to their rivals equaliser GALLAGHERS VIEW: The ball has to come from behind his head and I dont think it does. Its from in front of his head, he also throws it into the ground, its a classic example of what is a foul throw.MATCH: Villarreal 2-2 Barcelona, SundayINCIDENT: Neymar is awarded a penalty after being brought down in the box by Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.GALLAGHERS VERDICT: Penalty Neymar won and converted a controversial penalty in their La Liga game at Villarreal. GALLAGHERS VIEW: The first touch takes the ball away, he fouls him. The goalkeeper definitely got the ball but he fouls him first. A very good spot by the referee. CLEVELAND - The Phoenix Suns pulled off a memorable comeback. Cheap Authentic Balenciaga Shoes . For the Cleveland Cavaliers, it was a collapse they wont soon forget. The Suns, who looked as though they were about to get run out of the building, rallied from an 18-point halftime deficit by dominating the final two quarters for a 99-90 win Sunday night. "We were getting embarrassed," said Markieff Morris, who led Phoenix with 27 points. "Everybody knew it. Thats why we said if we were going to lose, we were going to go down fighting." Cleveland coach Mike Brown had a simple assessment of his teams meltdown. "It was hard to watch," he said. "Its disappointing we came out and played that way, and we should all feel embarrassed for the way we played in the second half." The Suns held Cleveland to six points in the third quarter and outscored the Cavaliers 56-29 in the second half. Channing Frye finished with 16 points, including four 3-pointers after halftime, and Goran Dragic scored 15 to help Phoenix rally on the first stop of a four-game road trip. "We were so, so bad in the first half, but at least everyone knew how bad we were," said Suns forward P.J. Tucker, who had 13 points and 10 rebounds. "When we were down, everyone was like, Were good. Thats the kind of faith we have in our team, but we cant keep doing this." The Cavaliers, who led by 20 late in the second quarter, fell to 1-3 on a five-game homestand considered crucial to their chances of staying in the Eastern Conference playoff race. "They outworked us in the second half, simply put," said All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, who led Cleveland with 24 points. Cavaliers centre Anderson Varejao injured his left leg late in the fourth quarter. He was down on the court for several minutes, but remained in the game. Varejao, who has battled injuries the last three seasons, will be checked by the teams medical staff on Monday. "I was worried," Brown said. "His knee was bothering him a little bit. It was tough to see." Phoenix trailed 61-43 at halftime, but hit five 3-pointers in the third quarter. Tucker scored on an offensive rebound with 45 seconds left to put Phoenix ahead 68-67, its first lead since 9-6 just 4 minutes into the game. The Cavaliers were 2 of 22 from the field in the third and set a season low for points in a quarter. Clevelands 29 points after halftime marked a season worst for a half. "I got on their case at halftime because we didnt give effort in the first half," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "It was the defence that did it. We got stops and that started it. Then all of a sudden, the other team was back on their heels." The Suns broke away from a 70-all tie with 11 straight points early in the fourth. Leandro Barbosas free throw put Phoenix ahead for good. Morris scored six points in the run before Barbosas steal and layup made it 81-70 with 8:38 remaining. Irvings two free throws with 2:06 to play cut it to 88-85. The teams traded baskets before Fryes 3-pointer made it 93-87 with 1:14 remaining. Phoenix shot just 39 per cent in the first half, when its starters combined for 24 points. Morris scored 15 off the bench. The Suns came out firing in the third quarter, forcing Cleveland to call timeout twice in the first 5 minutes. Frye hit 3s on three straight possessions, Gerald Green added a 3-pointer and a jumper, and a 3 by Dragic helped cut the lead to 65-61. Phoenix trimmed the lead to two on two occasions. Ish Smiths free throw with 1:13 remaining made it 67-66 before Tucker put the Suns ahead. Cleveland ended the second quarter on a 22-10 run sparked by Luol Dengs 10 points and six by Irving. The Cavaliers led 39-33 with 7:39 remaining in the period when Deng hit two jumpers, a layup and four free throws. He also found Jarrett Jack in the corner for a 3-pointer with a pass from the top of the key. Irving added a pair of jumpers and two foul shots. Irving had 13 points and seven assists in the first half. The third-year guard, elected an All-Star starter for the first time last week, had six assists in the first quarter, including Clevelands first four baskets of the game. Deng had 12 points, six rebounds and four assists in the first half. The Suns opened a road trip in which they will play four games in five nights. Phoenix went 1-4 on a trip earlier this month. Nine players on three NHL teams have contracted mumps this season, an unexpected outbreak that the league and the players association are trying to contain. New Balance Outlet Uk .Ryan Suter recently joined Minnesota Wild teammates Keith Ballard, Marco Scandella, Jonas Brodin and Christian Folin, Corey Perry, Clayton Stoner and Francois Beauchemin of the Anaheim Ducks and Tanner Glass of the New York Rangers to be diagnosed with the disease. Those infected with mumps can have a fever, headaches, muscle aches, fatigue and loss of appetite, followed by the swelling of salivary glands, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Deputy commissioner Bill Daly said the league has been in contact with team doctors and training staffs about best practices to prevent the spread of mumps, which has caught everyone off guard. It is certainly an outbreak that was unexpected and has caused unwanted disruption at the team level, but it is not something we have any significant control over, Daly said. As long as our clubs are doing what they need to do to minimize risk of contraction, we are hopeful that the wave of cases will run their course and life will return to normal in the relatively near term.Nine out of some 600 players getting the mumps is not a full-fledged epidemic, but the lack of familiarity about mumps has made it a talking point around the league. As Wild star Zach Parise joked to the Star-Tribute in Minneapolis: What is this, the Oregon Trail? Where are we right now? Every team seems to get the flu once a year, but the mumps? When Perry and Beauchemin were ill and eventually tests showed they had mumps, the NHL/NHLPA joint health and safety committee began working with teams to prevent further spread. The NHLPA has been actively educating the players regarding the recent outbreak, while providing best practices on how to avoid contracting and spreading mumps, spokesman Jonathan Weatherdon said. The mumps virus is spread through saliva or mucus, usually from coughing, sneezing or talking, according to the CDC. Sharing drinks and utensils can also contribute to spreading the infection. Its something were aware of, Vancouver Canucks NHLPA representative Kevin Bieksa said. The PAs addressed it, weve sent out a couple emails with some of the symptoms and some of the warning signs. Most of us have been vaccinated, so were doing whatever we can to prevent it.The Canucks arent the only ones taking precautions. Rangers coach Alain Vigneault told reporters that his team would be getting booster shots after they found out Glass had the mumps.According to the Winnipeg Free Press, the Jets have told their players not to share water bottles or towels and have been disinfecting dressing rooms when on the road. The first mumps vaccine was licensed in the United States in 1967, according to the CDC. The measles-mumps-rubella vaccine began to be administered in Canada in the early 1970s, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada.Originally, one dose of the MMR vaccine was administered to a child aged between 12 and 15 months. In 1989, several health agencies recommended the vaccine be increased to two doses, the second given between ages 4 and 6.The CDC says two doses of the vaccine are 88 per cent effective at preventing mumps, while one dose is 78 per cent effective.Theres no one common theme to the spread of mumps in the NHL, as the nine players range in age from 21 to 34 and are of three different nationalities. Suter (born in 1985) and Ballard (1982) are American; Perry (1985), Beauchemin (1980), Stoner (1985), Scandella (1990) and Glass (1983) are Canadian; while Brodin (1993) and Folin (1991) are Swedish.Even though he got vaccinated, Bieksa acknowledged being taken aback by news that mumps is going around.Obviously when theres a little bit of a small epidemic in the league, you kind of get concerned, he said. We played a lot of those teams (like) Anaheim, when they were going through it.Each new case brings more conversation about the mumps virus. Bieksa knew about the cases with the Ducks and Wild but hadnt heard of Glass getting it.Told the league couldnt anticipate this outbreak, Bieksa said: And rightfully so. Blancs side looked well set after scoring twice inside 20 minutes. But its defensive frailties were yet again exposed as Bastia roared back to level before halftime. We eased up in terms of our concentration and our rigour. The team forgot certain things, let certain things go in the last five minutes of the first half, Blanc said. Maybe we thought the match was easy. You have to respect these teams. We showed a lack of respect toward this Bastia team after the first 35 minutes and they made us pay.Star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is still struggling for fitness since returning from a troublesome heel injury and has scored only once in his past four games, was stunned by the defeat. We played well for the first 20 minutes and then something happened which has never happened to me before, the burly forward said. I mean, winning 2-0 and losing 4-2, Ive never experienced that. We need to wake up.PSG has failed to win any of its past three league games, losing two and drawing one.It remains three points behind Marseille, and — under the concerned gaze of club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi — this latest sloppy performance increases the pressure on Blanc ahead of Tuesdays League Cup quarterfinal at Saint-Etienne.Yes, we were complacent at times, Blanc said. You get taught a good lesson when you dont do things properly. To make matters worse, Saint-Etiennes 2-1 win at Reimss saw it leapfrog over PSG and into third place. Wholesale New Balance Shoes. Saint-Etienne moved to two points behind Marseille, level with Lyon, which has a better goal difference and can move to the top of the league if it beats Toulouse at home on Sunday.Saint-Etiennes goals came either side of halftime from wingers Yohan Mollo and Romain Hamouma. Before the winter break, Blanc lamented his teams lack of aggression, particularly when defending set-pieces — and two of the goals conceded came from corners and two stemmed from crosses.Conceding four goals is inexplicable, Blanc said. After PSGs bright start, midfielder Ryad Boudebouz converted a penalty for a handball by Gregory van der Wiel, and set up the equalizer on the stroke of halftime when his cross was headed home by veteran defender Francois-Joseph Modesto.Bastia took the lead soon after the break when defender Julian Palmieri struck the best of his two goals. Rabiot cleared Boudebouzs corner from the left, the ball fell to Palmieri some 20 metres out, and his volley made it 3-2 in the 56th.Anything can happen in football — I can even score with my right foot, joked Palmieri, who is left footed. After PSG centre half Thiago Silva struck the crossbar, Palmieri sealed an impressive win when he rifled in Abdoulaye Keitas cross from the right. In other matches, it was Evian 1, Rennes 1; Guingamp 2, Lens 0; Lille 1, Caen 0; and Nice 3, Lorient 1.A minutes silence was held before all matches this weekend in memory of the 17 people killed in Paris this week, following three days of bloodshed in a rampage by terrorists linked to al-Qaida in Yemen. Also on Sunday, Nantes hosts Metz and Monaco faces Bordeaux. LOUIS -- Adam Wainwrights day started as badly as it could but ended up just fine. Wainwright gave up Junior Lakes homer on his first pitch and allowed six more hits and three runs after that. But he saved a tired bullpen by sticking around for seven innings Saturday and leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 10-4 win over the Chicago Cubs. It was hardly a vintage performance by Wainwright (2-1), who struck out eight and helped his own cause with an RBI single. The four runs were twice as many as he yielded in his first two starts. "It was OK," said Wainwright, who led the majors with 241 2-3 innings pitched last year. "I think because our offence was so great, I did what they needed me to do, just go a little later in the game and give the bullpen guys some rest." St. Louis relievers Carlos Martinez, Kevin Siegrist and Trevor Rosenthal all threw more than 20 pitches in Friday nights 11-inning loss. "We needed that," manager Mike Matheny said about Wainwrights outing. "There were a couple of guys we were wanting to stay away from, for sure." In hindsight, Wainwright said there were only a few pitches he wanted back -- including his first one. "Hes an aggressive hitter," Wainwright said. "I should have known he was going to be swinging there. Thats OK to throw a fastball when you know theyre swinging, but youve just got to locate your heater." The win was Wainwrights 101st with the Cardinals, tying Matt Morris, Larry Jackson and Max Lanier for 10th place on the franchise list. Matt Adams homered and Matt Carpenter drove in two runs for the Cardinals. Daniel Descalso also had two hits with an RBI and two runs scored. Adams hit his first home run of the season, a leadoff shot in the second inning, and Jon Jay drove in two runs with a single. "It was nice to get some runs, especially for Adam and let him do his thing," Matheny said. "We took some good at-bats right from the top." The Cubs Nate Schierholtz, who had four hits Friday night, had two doubles and an RBI. &quuot; We did some good things, especially against Wainwright, who is an excellent pitcher," Chicago manager Rick Renteria said. Cheap Superstar Australia. "We just didnt do enough." St. Louis did most of its damage against starter Carlos Villanueva (1-3), who allowed nine runs and 10 hits in three innings. "I didnt feel bad," Villanueva said. "I felt like I had good stuff. But theyre a good team and they got me out of there quickly." After Adams homer tied the game at 1, the Cardinals sent eight more batters to the plate in the second. Yadier Molina and Allen Craig followed with singles, and they came home on RBI singles by Descalso and Wainwright. Carpenter then drove home Descalso with an infield single to shortstop that made it 4-1. St. Louis sent 10 more hitters to the plate in the fourth inning and broke it open by scoring five times. Descalso started the inning with a double and was safe at third on Wainwrights sacrifice, with Wainwright reaching first on the fielders choice. Carpenter and Kolten Wong followed with RBI singles and Matt Holliday had an RBI groundout. Jays single off reliever Chris Rusin with two outs made it 9-2. Memphis forward Zach Randolph has agreed to a contract extension with the Grizzlies, his agent said Friday. Nike SB Outlet Uk . Raymond Brothers confirmed to The Associated Press in a text message a Yahoo Sports report that Randolph is exercising his $16.5 million option for the 2014-15 season and has agreed on a two-year extension worth $20 million. Since coming to Memphis in 2009, Randolph has been a cornerstone of the Grizzlies franchise. His return indicates the Grizzlies will bring back the nucleus of a team that won 50 games this season and lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Randolph averaged 17.4 points and 10.1 rebounds this season to lead the Grizzlies in both categories, though he was suspended for the final game of the Oklahoma City series after punching Thunder centre Steven Adams in the jaw. He owns career averages of 17.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 13 NBA seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers and Grizzlies. After bouncing around a few organizations early in his career, Randolph has found a home in Memphis while helping the Grizzlies make four consecutive playoff appearances. Randolph, who turns 33 on July 16, made the All-Star game in 2010 and 2013 to become the only Memphis player with multiple All-Star appearances. He helped lead the Grizzlies to a Western Conference finals appearance in 2013. He also emerged as arguably the teams most popular player for the way he exemplified the Grizzlies "grit n grind" mentality. The Randolph extension stole most of the attention on a day when the Grizzlies also introduced first-round draft pick Jordan Adams and second-round selection Jarnell Stokes. Adams, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from UCLA picked 22nd overall, could boost the offence of a Grizzlies team that averaged just 96 points last season. Stokes, a 6-foot-8 forward from Tennessee, should provide energy and rebounding. "I think theyre going to be pros for the next 10 years," Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger said. "I really do." Stokes selection represents a homecoming for the Memphis native who recalled watching Grizzlies games "from the nosebleeds" section while in high school. The Grizzlies traded for Stokes after the Utah Jazz drafted him with the 35th overall pick. "I was just watching every single thing that players do," Stokes said. "I really liked Zach Randolph. I really liked how he used his leverage and how hes able just to find a way to make it happen when guys continuously doubt him. I definitely would love to learn from a guy like Zach Randolph." Now hes going to get that chance. Nike SB Uk . - A pitch clock will be used this season during minor league games at Triple-A and Double-A, but it has been ruled out for the major leagues this year. In the third period of Saturdays game, Hartnell hit Letang, who was playing his second game back after suffering a stroke in January. Each player was given a two-minute minor for roughing as they mixed it up after the whistle. After the Flyers 4-3 overtime win, Bylsma was asked if -- even though doctors assured the team and the 26-year-old defenceman that hockey would not put him more at risk for another stroke -- he had a little pause seeing Hartnell and Letang shoving each other. "I did have that thought when that was going on there," said Bylsma. "(Letang) kind of had the play there and the puck on his skate to try to score a goal. It fell off his stick and the whistle and everything ensued after that. Yeah it does, a guy picking on a guy who had a stroke." A team spokeswoman said Bylsma was joking when he made that remark. Told of Bylsmas comment regarding Hartnell without the benefit of much context, Flyers coach Craig Berube fired back. "Then he shouldnt play,&quoot; Berube said. Cheap Nike SB. "He shouldnt be out there playing, bottom line. Its a stupid comment." Letang, who scored 10 minutes later, said its "part of the game." "I got hit from behind, I turn around and it was him," Letang said. "I was not really shocked. but things happen in the game fast. I dont regret (it)." Hartnell declined comment through a team spokesman. Letang and Hartnell have something of a history dating to an Oct. 8, 2009 incident in which the Penguins defenceman accused the Flyers forward of biting his right ring finger. NOTE -- Flyers goaltender Steve Mason left the game with what the team called an upper-body injury, which resulted from being crashed into by two players. Penguins forward Jayson Megna pushed Flyers defenceman Andrew MacDonald into Mason at the 16:27 mark of the second period, and the goalies head snapped back and then appeared to hit the ice. Mason remained in the game until the intermission, but then Ray Emery replaced him to start the third. Berube said Mason was being taken out as a precaution and expects him to be ready for Game 1 of Philadelphias first-round playoff series against the New York Rangers on Thursday. ' ' '

SANTA CLARA, Calif. Yeezy Boost Australia Online . -- San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis and rookie safety Eric Reid were together in the Candlestick Park locker room, slightly groggy after each suffered a concussion during Sundays 10-9 loss to the Carolina Panthers. "We sat there watching the game on television," Davis said. "It was frustrating because we wanted to be out there." Two days later, both players are optimistic about returning in time to play the Saints in New Orleans this week. "Im doing fine, feeling great," Davis said. "All I can do is to wait for the doctors to tell me what I can do next." Davis and Reid each sustained their second concussion, with Davis getting hurt last year. He says its difficult trying to balance between playing all out and being concerned with his health. "You have to be concerned with your health, but you cant really think about it," Davis said. "Its a tough spot to be in. Concussions are one of the big ones. Sometimes youre ready to make contact with someone and youre thinking about your head." Davis was injured midway through the second quarter, as the 49ers were driving for a score. He went up for a pass from Colin Kaepernick and hit the ground hard on what was ruled an incomplete pass. The 49ers settled for a field goal to make it 9-0. Reid suffered his concussion when he tackled Carolinas Mike Tolbert following a 17-yard pass reception midway through the third quarter. "Im feeling fine," he said before heading off. He nodded when asked about what was expected of him this week. Davis said he did a little weightlifting, rode a stationary ride and attended meetings. "My memory was good. I remembered everything," he said. "My balance was OK." David and Reid will have to pass a contact test on Thursday or Friday before being cleared to play. Second-year tight end Garrett Celek said hes taking things day by day after sustaining a hamstring injury less than six minutes into the loss. He missed the remainder of the game. Celek strained his hamstring during a punt return with 9:18 remaining in the first quarter. "It was a freak thing," he said. "It didnt feel right. This is the first time something like this has happened. I dont know how my body is going to respond." Celek tried to stretch it out by running around and getting in his stance. "It was sore and the doctors didnt want to risk anything and they told me to sit out," Celek said. "Right now I still dont know the extent of it." NOTES: The 49ers released WR Kyle Williams. ... Cheap MLB Jerseys . -- Alex Ovechkin apologized for Russias hockey performance at the Olympics, a sentiment put in perspective by the encouraging news that his father was on the way home after heart surgery. Far more upset was Nicklas Backstrom, who remains clearly miffed that an allergy medication hes taken for years cost him a chance to play for a gold medal. The Washington Capitals held their first post-Olympics practice Tuesday, a session overshadowed by residue from the Winter Games even as they tried to focus on the resumption of their NHL schedule. Ovechkin was one of the faces of Sochi, bent on winning the gold on home ice. Instead, the Russians were eliminated in the quarterfinals for the second consecutive Olympics. "First of all, I want to say sorry to the fans," Ovechkin said. "Because its once in a lifetime opportunity to represent your country in the Olympics, and you didnt get the results, you didnt get any medal. Of course the fans, the media and the people who support Russia, family, was upset, but life goes on." Ovechkin took the Olympic disappointment especially hard four years ago, but this time he had to immediately turn his attention to his family. His father, who has a history of heart problems, became ill following one of his sons games and required surgery. Ovechkin wasnt told until three days later, after Russia had been eliminated. "Soon as I found out that hes in hospital and hes feeling not that good and he could be dying, I just forget the game that we lose against Finland. ... Just go there and spend time with him and saw him," Ovechkin said. "It was great feelings to see whats happening and how hes feeling. Thats most important thing." Ovechkin said his father, mother and brother were flying home to Moscow on Tuesday. Ovechkin said he understands the criticism he received for his play during the Olympics -- "I didnt score lots of goals out there" -- but the 28-year-old three-time league MVP appears ready to refocus on the Capitals, who resume play Thursday at Florida. "This is a very tough loss for me and for Russia, but Im almost 30," Ovechkin said. "I have to handle it. I have to fight through it." The lingering Olympic sting was more evident on the face of Backstrom, who helped lead Sweden to the gold medal game but was pulled from the lineup shortly before faceoff because he had failed a doping test. Without one of its top players, Sweden lost 3-0 to Canada. "Ive had allergies for seven years, since I got here," Backstrom said. "Everyone that lives in the Washington area knows how bad it is here. Ive been taking Zyrtec-D for the last seven years and I havent been doing anything differently. Ive been playing internationally, in the world championships (and) Olympics before, and so I havent done anything differently." An ingredient in the allergy medicine is on the list of banned substances for Olympic competition, but Backstrom said he was told by the Sweden team doctor that he could take one pill a day without triggering a positive test. "Who do I blame?" Backstrom said. "Well, I followed the doctors recommendation." Backstrom said he expects a two-week wait to find out whether he will be awarded his silver medal, which is being held at the International Ice Hockey Federation offices in Zurich. "Obviously, its not fun to deal with," Backstrom said. "I dont wish no one to have to go through this, if Im going to be honest with you. Its not fun. But Ive got to look forward to play next game on Thursday. Ive got to focus on Washington right now." Backstroms teammates, much like the international hockey community in general, were shocked at how his situation was handled. "Its just ridiculous that it can happen at a big tournament like this," forward Martin Erat said, "at the Olympics just before the finals when everybody is ready to go and you just want to enjoy the sport. It just happened because of some stupidity, and its just unbelievable that this can happen in the Olympics." The Capitals sent five players to Sochi, and four of them have dealt with some sort of unexpected life event that has derailed an attempt to return to normalcy after the Olympics. Ovechkin had the health scare with his father, Backstrom has the fallout from the doping test, Swedish forward Marcus Johansson is stuck in Stockholm because of an visa issue -- the Capitals expect him to join them in Florida for Thursdays game -- and Erat returned to his family in Nashville, Tenn., as soon as he could after the Czech Republic was eliminated. "We just finished our quarterfinal game, and I went for my phone, and our friend had called me and said your baby girl, Victoria Bella, is born," Erat said. "First we lost in the quarterfinal, it was hard to swallow, and when I got the news, it brought back a smile on my face." Cheap Ivan Rodriguez Jersey . The Edmonton Oilers havent made the playoffs in eight seasons, and it appeared that they might be ready to take a step forward in 2013-2014, but they fell flat once again. Vans Old Skool Australia Sale . Off-Season Game Plan looks at an Oilers team that ought to be feeling a sense of urgency, as they have top-end talent approaching their prime years and need to get on the winning track quickly. Lots has been made of the Oilers stocking up on talent through the draft and its that talent that brings about expectations. If Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins hadnt shown promise, then maybe the Oilers would be just a team adrift. This isnt to suggest that the Oilers are on the cusp of being great, because weve been down this road too many times to place those expectation, but if GM Craig MacTavish can bring in some pieces that will help improve the teams defensive play, then there is at least some reason for optimism. Expectations were in place last season, but goaltending put the Oilers in an early hole. Thats been addressed with the additions of Ben Scrivens and Viktor Fasth. They still have a talented group of young forwards, some of whom have more potential to realize, but if they could round out the group with solid two-way players, they could be on the right track. The blueline, however, is a prime area of concern, and its not easily rectified. "We need a few pieces that can really move this thing along," MacTavish told the Edmonton Sun, "And in my mind Id like to add a very high end defenceman." Maybe the Oilers could be willing to offer their first-round pick, No. 3 overall, if it would get them the number one defenceman they sorely need, but that may not be enough. Teams that have top-tier defencemen dont trade them, so for the Oilers to make that kind of deal -- to convince a team to move one -- they might have to go bigger and bolder. After missing the playoffs every year since 2006, maybe its time for the Oilers to go bigger and bolder. The TSN.ca Rating is an efficiency rating based on per-game statistics including goals and assists -- weighted for strength (ie. power play, even, shorthanded) -- Corsi, adjusted for zone starts, quality of competition and quality of teammates, hits, blocked shots, penalty differential and faceoffs. Generally, a replacement-level player is around a 60, a top six forward and top four defenceman will be around 70, stars will be over 80 and MVP candidates could go over 90. Sidney Crosby finished at the top of the 2013-2014 regular season ratings at 87.12. Salary cap information all comes from the indispensable www.capgeek.com. Over the past two seasons, as a 21 and 22-year-old, Hall has averaged 1.08 points per game. Since 2000, the list of forwards to record a higher points-per-game at that age includes Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Alex Ovechkin, Steven Stamkos and Nicklas Backstrom. Halls point production is better than Patrick Kane, Joe Thornton and John Tavares at the same age, so hes in top-tier company and if his team manages to control the puck more consistently, the numbers can still get better. After a breakout year in 2011-2012 and a regression year in 2013, Jordan Eberle settled in with a nicely productive 65-point season. Over the past three seasons, Eberle has 178 points, which ranks 17th in the league (Hall is 14th), so theres plenty of room for him to play a top-line role. At the same time, presuming that Hall is untouchable, Eberle could be the most attractive trade chip the Oilers have if they are looking at a deal for a number one defenceman. After coming over in an off-season trade with St. Louis, David Perron finished with a career-high 28 goals and 57 points. Hes been healthy, missing only four games in the past two seasons, and provides another legitimate scoring threat. He hasnt burst through in a big way, yet, but 21-year-old Ryan Nugent-Hopkins put up a career-high 56 points, as he was asked to handle fewer defensive zone starts compared to 2012-2013. Nugent-Hopkins hasnt been as flashy as Hall or Eberle, but plays a sound two-way game and thats not something that should be overlooked on a team that needs to be more reliable. Sam Gagner had a breakout season in 2012-2013, scoring 38 points in 48 games (a career-best 0.79 points per game), but then had his jaw broken before the start of last season and, strangely enough, struggled to get on track after that. After a relatively unlucky year, though, Gagner is a decent candidate for a bounceback season in 2014-2015. Veteran checking centre Boyd Gordon was brought in to relieve some defensive pressure, and no one started a lower percentage of their shifts in the offensive zone, so he does the heavy defensive lifting that, theoretically, should free up others to handle the offensive responsibilities. The first two seasons of Nail Yakupovs career have brought ups and downs, and his perceived value is probably at a low point due to a season of unfavourable percentages. PDO, which measures 5-on-5 shooting and save percentages when a player is on the ice (and is considered a gauge for who has been lucky or unlucky), has Yakupov ranked mostly among fourth-line grinders, who legitimately shouldnt expect their on-ice shooting percentage to be above average. There are no guarantees, of course, but 20-year-old Yakupov still has the high-end potential to be a big scorer, which makes it all the more difficult to do anything other than wait on his emergence. In their quest to add more grit to the fourth line, the Oilers traded for Matt Hendricks, taking on an inflated contract that pays $1.85-million per season for the next three years. Hendricks is undeniably tough, but wasnt effective last season and somehow played more than 14 minutes a game for the Oilers. That might fit the salary, but it doesnt match his production. Big winger Jesse Joensuu was looking for a fresh start after failing to stick with the Islanders and he got a chance with the Oilers last season. While he produced very little, there were also extenuating circumstances in terms of zone starts and horrific percentages that could result in something better. But the 26-year-old, who has 20 points in 109 career games and didnt play after March 14, also may not be part of the plans going forward. Luke Gazdic was handed a full-time role as the Oilers enforcer and no one in the league played fewer minutes while also registering more penalty minutes than Gazdics 127. He ranked third in the league with 15 fighting majors, so he can handle the rough stuff. Its the actual hockey playing that poses problems, as he had the worst possession stats in the league. Smallish forward Mark Arcobello couldnt hold down a regular spot with the Oilers, though his possession numbers might have warranted it, and he crushed the AHL with 28 points in 15 games, earning a one-way deal for next season. Will that land him a regular spot in the lineup, or will it make Arcobello a well-paid minor-leaguer? There has been lots of talk about the Oilers moving their first-round pick, third overall, and thats certainly in play if they could get a premier defenceman, but if the Oilers somehow decide to hold the pick and have their choice of one of Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett or Leon Draisaitl, well, that would be another quality asset around which to build. Its asking a lot for 35-year-old Ference to handle this workload going forward, but he is one steady influence. Once the Oilers called up Martin Marincin, they had the making of a quality second defence pairing with Marincin and Jeff Petry. Marincins relative possession numbers were very good, while facing quality opposition, so the lanky 22-year-old is a promising piece for next season. Highly-touted coming out of the University of Wisconsin, Justin Schultz has put up 60 points in 122 career games, which puts him in pretty good company offensively. The trouble is, Schultz gets eaten up in terms of puck possesson. Thats not entirely on him, but Schultzs game to this point doesnt warrant the kind of ice time that hes been getting. If hes going to keep playing 23 minutes a night, he simply has to be better; the other alternative being that the Oilers find others to take some of that ice time and limit Schultzs exposure. Philip Larsen is a finesse blueliner, who has been hanging around the fringe of the lineup. Hes mobile and a fine puck-mover, but hes not particularly physical and tends to get squeezed out of bottom pair minutes by bruisers. Thats not to suggest that his game warrants more; its just a reflection of what has happened as he battles for ice time. Jeff Petry emerged as one of the Oilers most reliable defencemen last season, particularly once paired with Marincin. Petry has good size, can skate and move the puck, and was one of 22 defenceman to combine for at least 300 hits plus blocked shots. Yes, that means the Oilers didnt have the puck so much, but they actually had it more with Petry and Marincin than any other time. For all the improvement needed on Edmontons defence, they could do worse than pressing forward with Petry and Marincin playing in a shutdown role. In addition to prospects Darnell Nurse and Oscar Klefbom, the Oilers also have to consider what kind of deals they might be able to make to secure a top pair defenceman. There are long-in-the-tooth free agents (Andrei Markov, Dan Boyle, Stephane Robidas) that have played top pair minutes, or the likes of Matt Niskanen and Mark Fayne, who had strong seasons, but dont have the same pedigree. Or, maybe the Oilers can swing that blockbuster trade. There have long been rumours about Edmonton trading one of their top young forwards and/or the third pick in the draft to bring in someone who can handle the big minutes, the tough minutes, for the Oilers. Returning Goaltenders Player Rating GP W L OTL GAA SV% Cap Hit Ben Scrivens 76.91 40 16 16 4 2.55 .922 $2.3M Viktor Fasth 58.53 12 5 4 2 2.82 .903 $2.9M The Oilers went into the 2013-2014 season with expectations that Devan Dubnyk could give them at least average goaltending -- not unreasonable given his track record -- but when that plan went completely awry, Edmonton started seeking out solutions and made a couple of moves to acquire goaltenders that can be part of the future for the franchise. 27-year-old Spruce Grove, Alberta native Ben Scrivens had a .917 save percentage in 51 career NHL games before joining the Oilers and he had a .916 save percetage in 21 games for Edmonton. He ended last season playing a career-high 40 games and posting a .922 save percentage, so hes earned his shot at the starting job, but hes also played 72 career games, and Dubnyk had played 139 games before going south last year, so who knows how it will turn out? With that in mind, the Oilers have another option too. Viktor Fasth had a terrific first NHL season, in 2012-2013, posting a .921 save percentage in 25 games for Anaheim. Groin problems resulted in Fasth getting bypassed in Anaheim, but the 31-year-old is capable of at least handling a split in duties with Scrivens. Top Prospects Player Pos. Whether he plays next year or not, Nurse is a strong prospect with the upside to, ideally, become a number one defenceman. Oscar Klefbom was the 19th pick in 2011 and was okay in a 17-game trial (1 G, 2 A, 44.3 CF%) with the Oilers late in the season. Hes 20-years-old, so more time in the AHL would be an entirely reasonable plan for next season. A big centre with limited offensive upside, Bogdan Yakimov was a third-round pick last year (five picks ahead of Anton Slepyshev) and has decided that he will play in North America next season. Anton Slepyshev isnt yet 20-years-old and has already played four seasons in the KHL. He has good size and while he hasnt managed to score much in the KHL, hes produced at international tournaments (including seven points in seven games at the World Juniors). High-risk, high-reward blueliner Martin Gernat has lots of potential, if not a lot of weight, packed onto his 6-foot-5 frame. Given some time to get stronger, he could start handling more important minutes. Drafted in the second round in 2012, Mitch Moroz is a big winger who crashed and banged his way to 35 goals in the WHL; the next test is to see if he can play the power forward game as a pro. A second-round pick in 2010, Tyler Pitlick got into 10 games (1 G, 0 A, 41.5 CF%) with the Oilers last season, starting a disproportionate amount of his shifts in the defensive zone. With 55 points in 145 career AHL games, hes not likely to be more than a checker at the next level. A seventh-round pick last summer, Greg Chase had a tremendous season as a playmaking two-way centre. With some time to develop, he could prove to be a late-round bargain. Projecting goaltenders is difficult work, especially a 21-year-old whose experience is primarily in the ECHL, but Laurent Brossoit was appealing enough for the Oilers to acquire as part of the Ladislav Smid trade. A sixth-round pick of the Flames in 2011, Brossoit will need time to develop. After leaving college hockey for the WHL, Jujhar Khaira had modest offensive production, so he likely needs some time before hes considered a serious prospect, but he has time to develop. A second-round pick of the Oilers in 2009, Anton Lander has all of eight points in 94 career NHL games, which would make it easy enough to write him off as a forward prospect, but he just put up 52 points in 46 AHL games and that is the kind of production that could at least warrnt interest from another team. The other piece coming to Edmonton in the Smid trade, Roman Horak also had a strong AHL campaign and has the speed to make it as a checking winger and penalty killer. In addition to those prospects, defencemen Dillon Simpson and David Musil provide additional organizational depth. The Dodgers opened the scoring in the third, as Gordon circled the bases on a ball that Blackmon had trouble picking up twice in the corner. First, he stumbled while bending down for it against the lower fence in foul ground and had to chase it back into fair territory -- where he missed on his second attempt to grab it. By the time Blackmon relayed it back to the infield, it was way too late to get Gordon, who was credited with his major league-leading seventh triple. Birch entered the NCAA ranks as the 11th-best high school player in the United States, and accepted a scholarship with the University of Pittsburgh. However, the Montreal native controversially left Pitt only 10 games into his freshman season. At the point of his departure, he earned a spot in the starting line up and showed glimpses of the defence and athleticism that made him a blue chip prospect. Yet after citing team issues of selfishness, he returned home to figure out his next move, which would eventually lead him to transfer to UNLV. Birch played two seasons at UNLV, his first coinciding with Toronto native Anthony Bennetts standout fresshman campaign that culminated in his first overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. Nike React Shoes Uk. Bennett outshined Birch with his dominant play and impressive stat line, yet Birch was named Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year. This season with Bennett out of the picture, Birch almost doubled his scoring (7.5 ppg to 11.5 ppg) and rebounding (5.7 rpg to 10.2 rpg) averaging a double-double, and again winning Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year honours. Despite improvement across the board Birch is very much a raw athlete, and instead of spending another year at school to work on his offensive game, he declared for the 2014 NBA Draft. Birchs strength is his defence. His 71" wingspan placed him second in the NCAA in blocked shots behind fellow Canadian Jordan Bachynski at a clip of 3.8 per game. His quickness and mobility make him a strong rim protector and help defender where his tenacity on defence cant be overlooked, tallying 1.2 steals per game. Offensively, he can run the floor and moves well without the ball, but is very limited in terms of offensive moves. His inability to create his own shot, coupled with his slight build will make it hard for him to maintain position in the low post. Quite simply, Birch will have to bulk up, which will help him on the defensive end as well. A great athlete with a high motor equals lots of upside, yet hes still a project. If an NBA team wants to develop him and help round out his game, its not a risk, but a long-term investment. It would be an interesting choice, however thats something that Birch is not averse to. VANCOUVER -- The B. Stitched China Jerseys .C. Lions have put some concerns about their quarterbacking situation to rest, at least for a little while, as the CFL playoffs loom. And their running game is looking pretty good, too. Nominal No. 1 signal-caller Travis Lulay scored a touchdown and completed three-of-four passes in limited duty upon his return from a shoulder injury as the Lions beat the Calgary Stampeders 26-7 in the final game of the regular season for both teams Friday night. "It was just exciting to be back on the field with the guys, just to get in and call some plays," said Lulay, who missed six games. Quarterbacking has been a concern because of Lulays health, Buck Pierces history of injuries and second-year pro Thomas DeMarcos inexperience. But all three impressed at times as the Lions sent a message that they will not go down lightly if the clubs meet in the West Final for the second year in a row. Meanwhile, Andrew Harris rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown as the Lions posted their second straight win heading into a semifinal game in Saskatchewan. "We just have ultimate confidence right now, and its perfect timing, because we have a (potentially) long stretch here on the road in the playoffs," said Harris. "Where we are right now, these two wins were absolutely crucial for us. I just think if we keep building off this well be all right in the playoffs." The Lions (11-7) had already secured third place, while the Stampeders (14-4) were already assured of first place and an opening-round playoff bye in the West Division. The clubs approached the game like an exhibition contest, with each deploying three quarterbacks and resting several other players. Harris excelled as he cracked the 100-yard barrier for the first time since July 30 against Toronto and was held under 20 yards on three occasions. "Oh, man, if Id have known that, I would have been yelling at (the coaches) to be running the ball," said Harris. "But its just one of those things. Its been a disappointing season and to not get 1,000 is a disappointing thing as well. But at the end of the day, were in the playoffs a and thats the biggest thing for me." Paul McCallum provided the rest of B.C.s points in the form of four field goals from 46, 44, 17 and 23 yards and two converts to account for the rest of B.C.s scoring. Calgarys Rene Paredes booted field goals of 46 and 21 yards while the Stampeders other point came on a punt single. "We didnt play good enough to win," said Calgary linebacker Juwan Simpson. "We take all the blame. We allowed them to score. We know we have to play better. We had a few injuries, but thats no excuse. We should have played better as a team." The Stampeders suffered a blow when they lost running back Jon Cornish, who entered the game as the CFLs rushing leader, with an apparent shoulder injury. Cornish recorded only four carries for 14 yards before leaving the game. The Lions got off to a rough start as Pierce threw a pass way beyond intended receiver Courtney Taylor and was intercepted by Deron Mayo. But on B.C.s next drive, he moved his club to the Calgary one-yard line and DeMarco came in and handed off to Harris for a touchdown off a third-and-one gamble. The Stampeders picked up a point on Mavers 60-yard punt single on the final play of the first quarter to close the gap to 7-4. But McCallums 47-yard field goal at 6:23 of the second quarter put the Lions ahead 10-4, setting the stage for Lulays short, but victory-clinching effort entry a little while later. Harris chalked up 51 yards on four plays that included three runs and just one seven-yard pass reception. But Lulay then connected with Nick Moore on a 36-yard pass that put the ball at the B.C. one-yard line. The QB then ran for a one-yard touchdown to culminate an 11-play, 87 yard scoring drive that with McCallums convert gave the Lions a 17-4 lead that stood up until halftime and effectively erased any further doubt about the outcome. "We were able to execute that one drive really well," said Lulay, who passed for a total of 54 yards. "We were second-and-long but the run game kept the drive alive. It was just a well executive drive and we finished it off, so it was good to be in and be a part of that." Pierce completed four-of-nine passes for 41 yards while Lulay was good on three of four, accumulating 54 yards, before they were both pulled. "It was good to get the start in," said Pierce, who made his first start since July while he was still with Winnipeg. "I threw an early turnover, but we wanted to take some shots early." DeMarco completed 9-of-12 passes for 96 yards, including a 45-yard strike to Emmanuel Arceneaux in the fourth quarter. The second-year Lions QB, who had struggled in recent weeks, generated three field goals and was unlucky not to get his team in the end zone after Harris was tackled for a loss that forced the Lions to settle for a 17-yard field goal. "I think its a good (quarterbacking) situation right now, and I think the whole offence and the whole team is confident in our play over the last two weeks," said Pierce, who led the Lions to a win over Saskatchewan seven days earlier. Glenn finished with five completions on eight pass attempts before getting the rest of the night off. Drew Tate and Bo Levi Mitchell also saw action at quarterback for Calgary but generated little as the Stamps generated only 165 yards in net offence to B.C.s 365. Notes: As a result of Pierces start, CFL teams deployed 19 different starting quarterbacks this season, according to the league. He was viewed as a "double-counter" because he started for both Winnipeg and B.C. The actual number of quarterbacks to start a game was 18. He was the third Lions QB to receive a start. a Calgary also lost defensive tackle Demonte Bolden, receiver Marquay McDaniel and defensive tackle Micah Johnson to injuries in the first half. a B.C. nickleback Korey Banks sat out with a lower-body injury, while linebacker Anton McKenzie was sidelined with an undisclosed ailment that kept him out of practice all week. Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping . Wiggins, who had been seen as a contender for a podium finish in Paris, was one of about 20 riders caught near the back of the peloton with 38 kilometres to go in the 218-km flat stage from Le Mans to Chateauroux. Wholesale Jerseys China . The mixed zone is not a place to make friends. http://www.cheapchinajerseys.net/ . The Stampeders announced the move on Wednesday. Bell spent his first two CFL seasons with the B. INDIANAPOLIS -- Johnny Manziel shed the Hollywood image Friday -- maybe for good. The brash-talking, Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from Texas A&M entered and exited the Lucas Oil Stadium media room through a back door. He ignored the television screens around him, monitors that provided live coverage of his media availability and that had been showing his college football highlights prior to his arrival. And it seemed Johnny Football had suddenly transformed himself into Johnny Business. "This is a job now. There are guys families, coaches families and jobs and all kinds of things on the line," he said in a stern, deliberate voice at the NFLs scouting combine. "For me, it wont be a hard thing to kick. Im extremely focused on whatever organization Ill be at and really pouring my heart out trying to be football 24-7 with that team." What he has to prove now is that he means every word. Since bursting onto the national stage in his Heisman-winning freshmen season, Manziel has been living large. Hes been courtside at NBA games, played golf at Pebble Beach, partied in Cabo and become a feature attraction for memorabilia hounds. Hes participated in dunk contests, publicly complained about life in College Station, Texas, developed a friendship with Tom Brady and never been shy about -- anything. But in Indianapolis, none of that stuff means a thing. Here, scouts and NFL front-office executives are treating Manziel as just another draft hopeful in the standard blue-and-green warm-up suit. Theyll see how he runs, how he tests and perhaps most important, how he answers questions. Most teams want to know whether this 21-year-old, fun-loving football star is mature enough to handle millions of dollars and live up to the tag of franchise quarterback. Fridays media availability may have been a good start. Rather than showcasing his bravado, Manziel, at times, sounded almost apologetic for some of the things hes said and done recently. "The main thing I wanted to portray that was more in the subplots of the article," he said, when asked about a story in which he seemed to warn Houston about bypassing him with the No. 1 overall pick, "was that whatever team I do end up with, whenever I do get to that team, whenever I am in that organization, each one of those guys is now my teammate, my brother and if Im on the field with those guys, Im going to try to be the best football player I can be." Other times, he sounded almost defiant. "I knew who I was meeting with, butt Im not sure of his official title. China Jerseys. Something along the lines of just a counselor," he said when pressed about reports he was being treated for alcoholism and anger management while at Texas A&M. When it became clear the 2012 Heisman winner measured in at 5-foot-11 3/4 inches, 207 pounds, shorter and lighter than his listed college measurements of 6-1 and 210, and shorter and lighter than many NFL teams seek in a starting quarterback, he wouldnt confirm the measurements. Instead, he explained that he more heart and passion for this sport than anyone in the draft. Not all the news was bad for Manziel. Though he stands about five inches shorter than Blake Bortles, another quarterback vying to wind up in Houston, Manziel came in with bigger hands -- a potentially big advantage on draft weekend. "I think it (hand size) is something that is highly underrated," said Arizona coach Bruce Arians, who has tutored Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger and Andrew Luck among others. "It depends on where you play. If you play in Lucas Oil, not too bad. Now, if you play in Green Bay and you struggle with controlling a football when its cold and wet, thats a problem. That goes into the evaluation process hard." Theres little doubt about Manziels skills. In 2012, he broke the SECs single-season record for total offense (5,116 yards), became the fifth player in FBS history to throw for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 in one season and then set an all-bowl rushing record for a quarterback (229 yards). After his jet-setting offseason and an NCAA investigation into autographs on memorabilia, critics contended a distracted Manziel regressed. But he actually threw for more yards (4,116), more touchdowns (37) and wound up with a better passing efficiency (172.9) in 2013 than he did in 2012. The Texas native believes he will only continue to get better on a bigger stage. But what scouts and team executives must determine between now and Mays draft is whether Johnny Football is for real or whether this personality change is just one more part of his ongoing act. "Im from a small town of Kerrville, Texas, 20,000 people. That gets lost when people make me out to be a big Hollywood guy," Manziel said. "Sometimes you get caught up in certain things, but at the same time its about continuing to learn and continuing to adapt to everything thats going on in my life. Im not saying its always easy, but continuing to be who Ive always been is a big thing for me." ' ' '

TALLADEGA, Ala. Cheap Air Max 90 . -- Denny Hamlin started his full-time career at Joe Gibbs Racing with an upset victory in an exhibition race at Daytona. Over the years, he added three more wins in races that didnt count, including a sweep this season in the buildup to the Daytona 500. But when it came to the restrictor-plate races that paid points, Hamlin came up empty time and again. Until now. Hamlin, who opened the season with two exhibition victories only to finish second in the Daytona 500, was again sitting second in the closing laps Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway. But he won a drag race with leader Kevin Harvick on a restart with two laps remaining, and was out front when NASCAR froze the field because of debris from an accident. Hamlin let out a deep sigh when the yellow flag waved. "Superspeedway win," he said on his radio. "With points! With points!" "I think Ive gotten better. Ive come close. When you drive as aggressive as I drove early in my career on superspeedways, youre going to have a huge risk, huge reward," he said after the win. "I was either wrecking or finishing in the top three every single superspeedway race and was wrecking most of the time. I think this way of driving and the way Im doing things now kind of lends itself to being a little bit more consistent on these type of race tracks, and really you learn from the guys that are good at it." Hamlin became the eighth winner in 10 races this season as drivers jockey to grab the 16 spots available in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. A victory conceivably gives a driver an automatic berth, and Joe Gibbs Racing now has both Hamlin and Kyle Busch eligible for the Chase. "I wasnt ever worried, but you get a little bit more panicked when its, Win a race and youre in Chase, " he said. "You see all these guys logging wins, wins, wins, and the next thing you know theyre running out of Chase spots. Now we can be a little bit more relaxed." The win came at the track where Hamlin made a brief return last year -- he ran just 23 laps before turning his car over to Brian Vickers -- after missing four races with a broken back. Hamlins return to the car briefly built some momentum for the No. 11 team, but as his back continued to ache, the season fell apart in late summer and it took until the season finale for Hamlin to score his first win of the year. He also missed the Chase for the first time in his career. It didnt appear that Hamlin had enough to beat Harvick, already a two-time winner this season, until the final restart. Harvick didnt get the help he needed from behind, was hung out without any drafting partners, and Hamlin pulled out to a comfortable lead. "We were in a good spot there at the end, and what you would want to put yourself in a position to win," Harvick said. "Our line just never formed up." As Hamlin pulled away, an accident deep in the pack scattered debris, and NASCAR was forced to throw the caution when a bumper was seen laying on the surface. The yellow prevented Greg Biffle, who led five times for a race-high 58 laps, from pulling out of line in an attempt to grab the victory away from Hamlin. "I just didnt want to pass too early. I was going to be the lone soldier on the outside lane," Biffle said. "So I was just waiting. I was setting up to go by him but just never had the chance." Clint Bowyer finished third and was followed by Michael Waltrip Racing teammate Brian Vickers as Toyota took the victory and three of the top four spots. AJ Allmendinger finished fifth in a Chevrolet, followed by Paul Menard and then Harvick, who faded to seventh. Kasey Kahne, Kyle Larson and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. rounded out the top 10. Daytona 500 winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished a disappointing 26th despite leading three times for 26 laps, second most in the race. Danica Patrick led two times for six laps, and the crowd roared its approval when she drove to the front early in the race. She finished 22nd. "It was nice to lead laps," she said. "It was a fast, fast car so well be happy to take this one to Daytona." It was a rough day for Brad Keselowski, a two-time Talladega winner, who darted to the lead on Lap 14 but appeared to not have cleared Patrick before squeezing in front of her car. She tapped the back of Keselowskis car, sending him for a spin through the grass that caused enough damage to drop him six laps off the pace. "We werent clear enough to make that," crew chief Paul Wolfe told his driver. "Ill just call it at that: We werent clear enough to make that move." Keselowski raced in the heart of the pack after the first incident in an attempt to get his laps back under caution periods. But he was heavily criticized for triggering a 14-car accident with 51 laps remaining. The accident began when Keselowski spun in front of Trevor Bayne, and among those collected were Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson. "Brad made a pretty bold move early, a mind-boggling move, in going in front of Danica and spun out in front of the field and got away with it," Kenseth said. "This time we werent so lucky. He was driving really, really, really aggressively to try to get back up there. "If it was the other way around and it was anybody else except for him, wed all be getting lectured." Gordon also chastised Keselowski. "I had seen him for several laps driving over his head being pretty aggressive," Gordon said. "I knew he was laps down, but he wasnt doing anybody any favours, nor himself." Keselowski took the blame for the late accident. "I just spun out in front of the whole field," he said. "I dont know why, if I just busted my butt on my own or lost a tire, but I feel bad for everyone that got torn up." Air Max 90 Cheap Uk . He had even more fun Friday. Former Toronto Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo addressed his tanking comments made at the MIT Sports Analytics Conference in Toronto on Friday and admitted it was merely a poor choice of words. Nike Air Force 1 Sale Uk . Speaking on TSN Radio 1050s TSN Drive with Dave Naylor on Monday, Colangelo said he had no intention of tanking the shortened 2011-12 season, but definitely wanted a high pick in the draft. "I wish that word wasnt used for headline reasons," said Colangelo, "but the story behind it was: how can we fix the system? How can we tweak the system to make it less likely that teams are rewarded for losing records? "I do believe that if youre as transparent as we were at the time - with our season seat holders, our fans, the market place and the media - everybody knew what the plan was and what we were going through. It didnt make it easy to lose games but there was anticipation that games would be lost. With that comes curtain rewards and in the system that we currently play under, the team with the worst record gets the greatest odds and a non-playoff team is in a lottery that can ultimately lead to them getting top-notch talent coming to their team." Colangelo said the team was happy getting Terrence Ross in the first round (8th overall) of the 2012 draft and would never tell a coach to lose games since it can only have negative long-term effects. "Coach was doing such a fabulous job with the group that there certainly was no intentional losing going on because we won far too many games than anyone anticipated and it put us in a position to still get a nice draft pick in Terrance Ross," said Colangelo. "But it certainly decreased our odds of getting the top choice, which was a franchise centre in Anthony Davis." Colangelo talked about when the team faced heavy scrutiny when they picked Jonas Valanciunas, who was selected in the first round (5th overall) in 2011. "We got booed off the stage when the announcement was made but that was the right pick for this organization. It was not an easy one to make knowing that Jonas would not be made available for at least a year and maybe more if the buyout hadnt been successfully negotiated. We knew it was going to be a tough scenario going into a new year without the inclusion of a top draft pick but the following season we also knew that not only would Jonas be coming but another fairly high-value draft selection - unknown at the time - would be helping us as well. Not to mention we would have cap space and greater developed players at that point." The Raptors finished the 2011-12 season with a 23-43 record, good for 11th in the Eastern Conference, 12 games behind the Philadelphia 76ers for the final playoff spot in the East, and the eighth-worst record in the NBA. The team neither rose nor fell in the lottery, receiving the eighth-overall pick in the 2012 draft where they selected Ross out of the University of Washington. The 2007 NBA Executive of the Year (with the Phoenix Suns) was speaking at the MIT Sports Analytics Conference on a proposal currently in front of the NBA Board of Governors which would see the draft lottery and any incentive to bottom out eliminated. "Admittedly, I will say, I tried to tank a couple years ago," said Colangelo to the conference. "And I didnt come out and say, Coach (Dwane Casey), youve got to lose games. I never said that. I wanted to have him establish a winning tradition and a culture and all of that, but I wanted to do it in the framework of playing and developing young players, and with that comes losing. Theres just no way to avoid that, but I never once said, Youve got to lose this game." Colangelo was relieved of his general manager position last May in favour of Masai Ujiri and eventually resigned his post as Raptors president the following month. Pavlyuchenkova rallied from 3-0 down in the first set and fought off four set points in her 5-6 service game before taking a one-set lead. But the momentum shifted when Radwanska won the first three games of the second set. The Pole stayed on serve with Pavlyuchenkova through the first nine games of the third set before one last break to close out the match in 2 hours, 45 minutes. "Its tough losing this match after fighting so long and coming so close," Pavlyuchenkova said. "Its difficult and frustrating, but in tennis you can be up then down." Radwanskas previous two titles this year came in the first two weeks of the year, in Auckland and Sydney. She is the fourth player to win three or more titles so far this season, after Serena Williams (9), Simona Halep (4) and Victoria Azarenka (3). Radwanska, No. 4 in the world rankings, improved to 3-1 in head-to-head matches against Pavlyuchenkova, who is ranked 32nd. Buy Adidas NMD Australia . Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hi Kerry: I was watching the Hawks-Blue Jackets game on Friday night - the game in which the Hawks scored with less than four seconds remaining to claim victory. My question concerns the face-off for that game-winning goal. Let me describe what I saw the previous play. With less than thirty seconds remaining, the puck was shot on the ice in front of the Jackets bench. Two Jacket players jumped on to the ice while two others went to the bench. The puck went just inside the Jackets zone where a Jacket defender got the puck with just over 20 seconds left. A linesman whistled down the play indicating that the Jackets had too many men on the ice and there would be a penalty with a faceoff deep in their end. As it turned out, the two referees counted the players on the ice and determined there were not too many players and NO penalty would be assigned. The face-off was still held deep in Jacket territory. The Hawks took control from the face-off and scored. My question to you is should not that face-off been held outside the Jackets blue line or at centre because the linesman blew down the play incorrectly? Since the Jackets had control of the puck when the "too many men" whistle blew, it seems to me unfair they should be penalized with the deep faceoff. Im sure the Leafs, Flyers and Devils agree with the call; however, I didnt and I am a Hawks fan. Could you please give me your take on this as I am sure it cost the Blue Jackets a very important point or two. Thanks, Doug MacLean --- Hi Doug: I have little doubt that the former Blue Jackets GM with the same name as yours would have been waiting near the officials dressing room looking for some clarification on this play as well if he still occupied thaat position. The linesman clearly made an error in judgment when he determined the Blue Jackets were in violation of rule 74 - too many men on the ice - with 21.6 seconds remaining in regulation. Even though play was stopped through an officials error the face-off location in this case is determined by where the puck was last played under rule 76.2. “When the game is stopped for any reason not specifically covered in the official rules, the puck must be faced-off at a face-off spot in the zone nearest to where it was last played.” Defenceman Jack Johnson had the puck on his stick a couple of feet inside the Blue Jackets end zone when the linesman blew his whistle to stop play. As per rule 76.2 the face-off had to be conducted on the nearest end-zone face-off dot of the Blue Jackets. The only provision within the rules to relocate a face-off in the neutral zone following a linesmans error is contained in rule 81.2 - If the linesman shall have erred in calling an “icing the puck” infraction (regardless of whether either team is short-handed), the puck shall be faced-off on the center face-off dot. It is most unfortunate for the Blue Jackets that the whistle was not blown by the linesman when Jack Johnson first touched the puck when it rested on the blue line and prior to entering the defending zone. Had that been the case, the ensuing faceoff would have taken place on the neutral zone face-off dot. It might be unfair, Doug, that the Blue Jackets lost so much territorial advantage following the linesmans error but there was no option to locate the face-off in the neutral zone on this play. While the Blue Jackets did have some opportunities to get the puck out of their end zone following the face-off with 21.6 seconds remaining, I acknowledge it was a tough way for a team to lose such an important game.
