Since this game doesn’t mean anything in the actual standings, we’ll hold off on the blow-by-blow recap of how the game transpired. Daz Cameron hit a home run, but check out the box score if you want any more details.Instead, let’s talk about the Things We Saw from the Baseball Game.Spencer Turnbull pitched the fifth and sixth innings, and looked fairly sharp in the process. His fastball sat around 93 miles per hour, and he struck out three while only giving up one hit. One of his strikeouts came at the hands of Aaron Judge, who had no idea what to do with this breaking ball.Daniel Norris’ fastball sat in the 90-92 mile per hour range, if you trust the broadcast’s radar gun. He walked a batter Joe Jimenez Jersey , but was squeezed a bit in the at-bat. Otherwise, his outing was unremarkable.Kyle Funkhouser had one of the more interesting outings of the night. He looked sharp early on, and struck out a pair of major leaguers to start his lone inning of work. Brett Gardner was fooled by a 94 mph fastball — he was visibly frustrated by a strike call on the pitch before that, which may have played a role here — and Gleyber Torres went fishing.Funkhouser’s final line (two runs allowed on four hits) doesn’t tell the whole story, though. He allowed a one out double to DJ LeMahieu, but should have been out of the inning when he allowed a two-out fly ball to right. It was a fairly difficult play at first glance, but it looked like Cam Gibson drifted toward the ball somewhat. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Gibson should have made the play, even if he didn’t get a glove on the ball. Funkhouser then allowed a pair of seeing-eye singles before inducing another grounder to finally end the inning.Yankees righthander Domingo German struck out the side after allowing a run in the seventh. Victor Reyes looked particularly lost in this sequence.If the Tigers send runners home from third in the regular season as aggressively as they did in this game, we’ll be yelling at third base coach Dave Clark a lot in 2019.The YES announcers did their best Jim Price impressions in the eighth, informing viewers how to identify players who have come over from minor league camp. You know, the whole “double-flapped helmet, locker on wheels” bit.Brady Policelli held his own in a ninth inning at-bat against Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle. Policelli made loud contact on a line drive to right field, and was rewarded when the ball glanced off Isiah Gilliam’s glove for an error. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pirates general manager Neal Huntington wants Major League Baseball to consider changing its concussion assessment system to allow for player re-entry after exiting a game for concussion testing.Huntington offered the suggestion Sunday, a day after Pittsburgh catcher Francisco Cervelli suffered a head injury.Cervelli was struck by the barrel of Joc Pederson’s broken bat with two outs in the fourth inning. After being assessed on the field by a trainer, he remained in the game before removing himself in the bottom of the inning after briefly stepping into the batter’s box.Huntington says that if a player knows he must leave a game to enter concussion testing, he’s less likely to report symptoms.“Any player that had an obvious concussion risk incident should be allowed to be removed from the game, taken off the field, taken into the locker room, assessed by a doctor, assessed by a trainer, go through an extended period of time and then re-enter the game Alan Trammell Jersey ,” said Huntington. “Because right now, all of this has to happen on the field.”Cervelli, 33, has a long history with head injuries during his 12-year career, with six documented concussions since 2011. He was placed on the 7-day concussion list Sunday.“The player has to feel pressure as he’s standing there with 30,000 or 10,000 or 50,000 eyes on him,” Huntington said. “He has to feel pressure to make a decision whether (he’s) in or (he’s) out of this game. He knows if he takes himself out and he’s the catcher, there’s only one other catcher, and the game becomes a fiasco if that other catcher gets hurt.”
