A lightweight title fight between Eddie Alvarez and Khabib Nurmagomedov is currently being targeted for UFC 205 on Nov. 12 in New York, according to UFC president Dana White.White revealed the potential matchup via social media Tuesday, although UFC officials have not officially confirmed. White did not respond to requests for comment from ESPN.The UFC 205 pay-per-view event is scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden. It is an historic event, as it marks the UFCs first trip to New York since a 1997 ban on professional mixed martial arts was lifted earlier this year.Should the title fight become official, Alvarez (28-4) would be making his first title defense. The former Bellator MMA champion claimed the UFC title in a first-round knockout over Rafael dos Anjos in July.Nurmagomedov (23-0), from Dagestan, has fought only once in the past two years due to injury. He defeated late replacement Darrell Horcher via TKO in April. The fight Alvarez is still most interested in is against McGregor, according to sources.In fact, Whites revelation of the 155-pound title fight came in a response to a social media question related to McGregor. Alvarez also has expressed interest in fighting McGregor, but the promotion is taking a different direction, according to White. Representatives for McGregor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Alvarez appeared to be campaigning for a McGregor fight on social media on Tuesday.Shortly after Whites tweet, Nurmagomedov seized the opportunity to show his interest in a title shot and challenged Alvarez to sign a contract to face him.
