ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Given his occasional ball-in-one-hand running style, LeSean McCoy acknowledges hes not the best person to turn to in pinpointing why the Buffalo Bills have committed so few turnovers this season.I would be lying to you if I just told you we do some super thing to protect the ball, the Bills running back said. There aint no secret.And yet, McCoy and Co. must be doing something right because the Bills have been so proficient at protecting the ball, most of the teams game-day giveaways are coming from the promotions department.Buffalos six turnovers are the fewest through 11 games in NFL history. The previous low over that span was eight shared by five teams, most recently Kansas City last year. The single-season record is 10, set by New England in 2010 and matched by San Francisco the following season.McCoy doesnt have a giveaway in the 167 times hes touched the ball. Hes had three fumbles, with each one recovered by the Bills -- including two by offensive tackle Jordan Mills.Quarterback Tyrod Taylor is responsible for five turnovers, with four interceptions and a lost fumble. The only other miscue was made by rookie running back Jonathan Williams losing a fumble in the final minutes of a 45-16 win over San Francisco on Oct. 16.The Bills (6-5), who prepare to play at AFC West-leading Oakland (9-2) on Sunday, have had six turnover-free games this season in already matching last seasons total.Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack is impressed by how few times Buffalo has turned it over.They do things consistently, theyre fundamentally sound, Mack said. But at the same time, its all about us. Our numbers arent very good yardage-wise or whatever, Ryan said. But I think the main thing is your pass-efficiency. And I think sometimes thats a little higher rated than what the yardage should be.Taylor said there are times he does take chances.Its my job to take calculated risks, but at the same time be smart with where Im going with the football, Taylor said. Turnovers definitely dont lead to good things in this league.With Buffalos defense forcing 14 takeaways (eight interceptions and six forced fumbles), the team ranks fourth in the league with a plus-8 turnover differential. Its also a plus that Buffalos defense has limited opponents to scoring just two field goals off six turnovers.Linebacker Zach Brown said Buffalos defense has benefited from how well the offense has protected the ball.Brown, however, placed the onus on the defense for not doing enough to play its part.Then again, in the big picture, he said, the objective is to win games, not set records for fewest turnovers.Who cares about that record? Denver Broncos2016 record: 8-6 Week 15 ranking: 13The Broncos were 4-0 to start the season and had a 96 percent chance of making the playoffs, which was best in the league, according to FPI. The Broncos are just 4-6 since, and FPI now gives them a 25 chance of making the playoffs. A win Sunday at the Chiefs would go a long way in improving those odds.14. Miami Dolphins2016 record: 9-5 Week 15 ranking: 18Maybe QB Matt Moore should be a starter? In his past 10 starts (dating back to 2011), Moore is 7-3 and has thrown 19 touchdowns to six interceptions. He looks to keep the Dolphins in the playoff hunt at Buffalo on Saturday.15. Washington Redskins2016 record: 7-6-1 Week 15 ranking: 14Kirk Cousins is good, but the Redskins cant over-rely on him. That includes Brock Osweiler, who will be taking a backseat to Tom Savage in Week 16, as the 2014 fourth-round pick is slated to make his first career start Christmas Eve against the Bengals.18. Indianapolis Colts2016 record: 7-7 Week 15 ranking: 24Monster wins against the Jets and Vikings sandwich that painful Week 14 loss to the Texans, and the 7-7 Colts now need a lot of help to win the division. The Colts have to travel to Oakland this week, and FPI gives them only a 35 percent chance of winning.19. Cincinnati Bengals2016 record: 5-8-1 Week 15 ranking: 20Sundays loss guarantees the Bengals a losing season for the first time since 2010. The defense has remained strong, but the offense went from averaging the seventh-most points last season to ranking 23rd this season (20.6). The Bengals look to rebound with a win Saturday night at Houston.20. Minnesota Vikings2016 record: 7-7 Week 15 ranking: 15Adrian Petersons return didnt exactly spark the offense. He has now rushed 37 times this season for 72 yards, an average of 1.95 yards per rush. Peterson and the struggling Vikings visit Green Bay in Week 16.21. Carolina Panthers2016 record: 6-8 Week 15 ranking: 22QB Cam Newton improves to 20-5 in December and January regular-season games following Mondays 26-15 victory over the Redskins. Arizona Cardinals2016 record: 5-8-1 Week 15 ranking: 19The Cardinals drop to 5-8-1 following their Week 15 loss to New Orleans, but lets appreciate David Johnson for a second: On Sunday, Johnson set the Cardinals franchise record for scrimmage yards in a season and matched the Cardinals single-season touchdown record (17). Hell look to add to that against the Seahawks on Saturday.23. New Orleans Saints2016 record: 6-8 Week 15 ranking: 23The Saints are pretty much all-or-nothing this season. They have scored 13 or fewer points three times this season and have scored 40 or more four times. Philadelphia Eagles2016 record: 5-9 Week 15 ranking: 27Remember Carson Wentzs streak without an interception to start the season? San Diego Chargers2016 record: 5-9 Week 15 ranking: 21The Chargers have already been eliminated from the playoffs, but youd think that Saturdays game against the winless Browns is a must-win for San Diego.
