RIO DE JANEIRO -- The sight of Emily Seebohm bawling her eyes out pool-side did provide a fairly convincing argument.But Australias dual world champion backstroker says she doesnt want to be the poster girl for social media bans at the Rio Olympics.More and more Australian swimmers are following Seebohms lead and brushing social media at the 2016 Games after her London meltdown.At the 2012 Games, Seebohm was inconsolable pool-side after infamously blaming a Twitter fixation for her shock London 100m backstroke result.Seebohm broke the Olympic record in the heats, only to surprisingly succumb to American nemesis Missy Franklin in the final.Seebohm, 24, has handballed her social media accounts to a friend as she looks to finally break through for a maiden individual Games gold at Rio - her third Olympics.But Seebohm hoped other swimmers did not just blindly follow her lead and ban social media at Rio despite her convincing argument at London.Social media is something you have to decide personally, said Seebohm a 10-year veteran of the Australian swim team.Some people might like that distraction.Personally it doesnt work, I know that.Keeping a low profile on Twitter worked a treat at the 2015 world titles in Kazan, Russia for Seebohm.She became just the fifth woman since 1973 to claim the 100m-200m world double in Kazan.It marked her first individual gold medals at her fifth world titles campaign.Seebohm hinted at more greatness to come at Rio.A two-time relay Olympic gold medallist, Seebohm was confident of finally breaking through for individual honours in Brazil thanks to her new outlook.The same approach I took at Kazan I am taking here, she said ominously.I havent posted anything of late and I dont plan to.When I finish my events I will take it from there.Hopefully with plenty to tweet about.
